  • The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 439, against 383 in September—an increase of 56. The deaths in October were 178—an increase of 27 on the number in September. Of the total deaths, males contributed 92, females 86. Forty-one of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 23·05 per cent. of the whole number; 32 of these were under one year of age.

There were forty-five deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Seven men, 67, 68, 69 (two), 72 (two), 79, and four women, 71, 72, 78 (two), died at Auckland; four men, 65 (two), 76, 82, and three women, 66 (two), 67, at Wellington; five men, 65, 66, 68, 69, 81, and six women, 66, 67, 68, 77, 87, 91, at Christchurch; and eight men, 65 (three), 67, 72, 75, 77, 87, and eight women, 68 (two), 71 (three), 73, 76, 77, at Dunedin.
