ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-ninth day of October, 1900.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section four of “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1895,” it is enacted that the Governor may, by Order in Council, except from the operation of section one hundred and seventeen of “The Native Land Court Act, 1894” (hereinafter called “the said Act”), for a limited period or otherwise, and either generally or for such purposes and subject to such restrictions as shall be in such Order specified, any land, wheresoever situate, which is for the time being subject to the operation of the said section, or any interest therein or right over the same, or may in like manner make such exception in favour exclusively of any lessee or other person who has been bonâ fide in occupation of and has made improvements on such land, or has paid money to Native owners for lease or purchase thereof, prior to the passing of the said Act: Provided that no Order in Council under the provisions of this section shall take effect until after the expiration of two months from the date of the publication thereof in the Gazette: Provided also that every alienation under the provisions of this section shall be confirmed by the Court in terms of section fifty-three of the said Act:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred by section four of “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1895,” and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby except from the operation of section one hundred and seventeen of “The Native Land Court Act, 1894,” for the purpose of alienation by way of lease, the blocks or parcels of land particularised and set out in the Schedule hereto.

Extended Telegraph Hours, and Amended Regulations and Fees.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At Christchurch, this first day of November, 1900.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the twentieth day of August, one thousand nine hundred, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-third day of August, one thousand nine hundred, certain regulations were made and fees fixed, under the authority of “The Electric Lines Act, 1884” (hereinafter called “the said Act”), for the conduct of business at certain telegraph-offices during some portion or portions of the day or night beyond the periods during which they had theretofore been opened for such purpose: And whereas it is expedient to amend such regulations and fees in the manner hereinafter mentioned:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in him by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities in that behalf enabling him, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby revoke the aforementioned Order in Council, and by the same power and authority doth make the regulations and fix the fees set forth in the Schedule hereto for the purposes hereinbefore mentioned, and doth order and declare that such regulations and fees shall have effect and be levied on and after the first day of November, one thousand nine hundred.

SCHEDULE.

The telegraph-offices at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Greymouth, Invercargill, Napier, Oamaru, Timaru, Wanganui, Wellington, Blenheim, Nelson, New Plymouth, Thames, and Westport shall be open for the transaction of public business between the hours of 8 a.m. and midnight on ordinary week-days, on Sundays between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10.30 a.m., and 5 p.m. and 5.30 p.m., and on statutory holidays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. and midnight. The foregoing hours, or any variation thereof, may be extended by the Electric Telegraph Commissioner to any other telegraph-office from time to time.

For telegrams lodged at any such office for delivery therefrom, or for transmission between any two or more of such offices, the fees shall be as stated hereunder:—

No charge shall be made for address and signature, up to six words, on any Press telegram. In assessing the total amount due, fractions of a penny are reckoned as a penny.
