receptacle for sealing-wax, one portion of said receptacle being an integral part of buckle, the other portion being hinged thereto, and having a spring catch or lock, substantially as described, and as illustrated in the drawings. (3). In a mail-bag buckle, the combination with an ordinary buckle consisting of a tongue and cross-bars of a wax-bed consisting of a fixed and a hinged part, substantially as described and as illustrated.

Claims.—(1.) In gold-saving tables, the causing of any or all of the tables to reciprocate or rock by power, for assisting to catch the gold, combined with doors for causing an even or desired distribution of the wash, substantially as described, and shown in the drawing. (2.) In combination, moving tables and their troughs, and distributing-boxes E, F, G, H, I, and J, with regulating-doors K, K¹, substantially as set forth, and for the purposes specified. (3.) In combination, the tables only E and H, moving by reciprocating and rocking motion, substantially as set forth.

No. 13080.—15th October, 1900.—JAMES STOREY MAXWELL, of Rocky Nook, near Auckland, New Zealand, Gentleman. A combined side- and centre-discharge silt-punt for reclaiming and dumping purposes.
Claims.—(1.) In a silt-punt, two watertight compartments connected to one another, with a space between them, in which space a V-shaped hopper is fixed to said compartments, said hopper having a door on the lower end of one side, and on the upper end of the opposite side a windlass with a chain or chains connected from its drum to the door, for the purpose set forth, substantially as described and illustrated. (2.) In a silt-punt, a deflecting piece or plate loosely fitted or hinged to a stay, fixed beneath a V-shaped hopper secured in a space between two watertight compartments connected to one another, said hopper having a door, for the purpose set forth, substantially as described and illustrated. (3.) In a silt-punt, in combination, two watertight compartments connected to one another, with a space between them, a V-shaped hopper fixed to and between said compartments in said space, a door in the lower end of one side of said hopper, a windlass placed on upper part of opposite side of said hopper, a chain or chains winding on drum of said windlass and connected to said door, a stay beneath hopper in said space, and a deflecting piece or plate loosely fitted or hinged to said stay, all for the purpose set forth, substantially as described and illustrated.

No. 13081.—16th October, 1900.—ALFRED GRACE THOMPSON, of Bay Street, North Brighton, Victoria, Saddler. Improvements in harness-saddles.
Claims.—(1.) The improvement in harness-saddles consisting of a metallic saddle-tree cast or stamped all in one piece, having through an integral flange holes for the passage of the terret-screws and the bolt or screw for the check-rein hook, and an integral tongue protruding from the lower end of each leg to engage bridges in the upper lining of the pad, all as and for the purposes described, and as illustrated in the drawings. (2.) The improvement in harness-saddles consisting of a removable pad or cushion fitting between rolls on each side of the flaps, and having nuts to hold terret-screws riveted to the upper lining of the pad, and bridge-pieces cut in the said lining to receive tongues on the bottom of the saddle-tree legs, and at the lower end of each side of the lining a metallic extension-piece to fit into a catch on the inside of the flap or cover, all as and for the purposes described, and as illustrated in the drawings. (3.) Improvements in harness-saddles consisting of a metallic saddle-tree cast or stamped all in one piece, having through an integral flange holes for the passage of the terret-screws and the bolt or screw for the check-rein hook, and an integral tongue protruding from the lower end of each leg to engage a bridge in the upper lining of the pad, in combination with a removable pad or cushion fitting between depending rolls extending each side of the flaps, and having nuts to hold terret-screws riveted to the upper lining of the pad, and bridge-pieces cut in the said lining to receive tongues on the bottom of the saddle-tree legs, and at the lower end of each side of the lining a metallic extension-piece to fit into a catch on the inside of the cover, all as and for the purposes described, and as illustrated in the drawings.
