Volunteers dismissed from the Force.

Wellington, 23rd October, 1900.

HIS Excellency the Governor, by his Deputy, has been pleased to approve, under clause 50, “The Defence Act, 1886,” of the dismissal from the New Zealand Volunteer Force of

No. 14, Private HERBERT LANCASTER, and
No. 40, Private HENRY PEEK,

both of the Sydenham Rifle Volunteers, for having, on the 24th March, 1900, without permission or authority first obtained, left the colony for South Africa, taking with them the arms and accoutrements on issue to them, the property of the New Zealand Government. Dismissal to date from the 24th March, 1900.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Borough of Port Chalmers.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Port Chalmers, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

BOROUGH OF PORT CHALMERS.

To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary.

I, DAVID ALEXANDER DEMAUS, Mayor of the Borough of Port Chalmers, do hereby, pursuant to section 59 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” give you notice that on the 5th day of October, 1900, a poll of the burgesses of the said Borough of Port Chalmers was taken under the said Act on the proposal of the Borough Council to raise by way of loan, under the said “Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and its amendments, the sum of £2,500 for the purpose of improving and extending the waterworks and water-supply of the Borough of Port Chalmers; and that the said loan shall be for a period of forty-one years; and that the yearly interest thereon shall be 3½ per centum per annum; and that out of the moneys so to be borrowed it is proposed to pay the cost of raising the said loan; and that the security to be pledged for such loan shall be a special recurring rate of 2d. in the pound on the rateable value of the rateable property of the borough. And I also give you notice that the number of valid votes given for the proposal was 96, and the number of valid votes given against the proposal was 7; and, as a majority of valid votes was given in favour of the proposal, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

KIWITEA COUNTY COUNCIL. — LOAN OF £340, MANGAMAKO ROAD.

THE following is the result of poll on the proposals to borrow the sum of £340 for the construction of the above road, in the Otamakapua Riding of the Kiwitea County :—

Number of ratepayers on roll, 24, representing 28 votes: Votes recorded for the proposal, 17; number of ratepayers voting, 18; votes against, 5.

The number of valid votes recorded for the proposal being more than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded, I hereby declare the proposals to be carried.

MANCHESTER ROAD BOARD.

Special Order.

THAT, in order to provide the interest on a loan of £5,100, to be borrowed under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act Amendment Act, 1899,” the Manchester Road Board doth hereby make and levy a special rate of 6¼d. in the pound upon the whole of the rateable property within Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 Subdivisions of the Manchester Road District. Such rate to be an annual-recurring rate, payable at the Board’s office by equal half-yearly instalments, on the 1st day of April and October in each year, for a period of forty-one years, at 3½ per cent. per annum, in accordance with subsection (3) of section 2 of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act Amendment Act, 1899.” The said £5,100 to be applied in the construction of the several works in Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 Subdivisions, as set forth in the schedule of the proposal advertised in the Feilding Star on the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th July, 1900.

I hereby certify that the above special order has been made and confirmed in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Special Order.

THAT, in order to provide the interest on a loan of £650, to be borrowed under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act Amendment Act, 1899,” the Manchester Road Board doth hereby make and levy a special rate of ½d. in the pound upon the rateable value of the following properties within the Manchester Road District—viz., Sections 52, 53, 54, and half of Section 48 (142 acres, fronting Valley Road), Block XII., Oroua Survey District; Sections 44, 47, 13, 12, 11, 10, and 14, Block XVI., Oroua Survey District; Sections 9, 8, 7, 18, 17, 16, 15, part Manchester Block K, Block XIII., Pohangina Survey District; Sections 13 and 14, part Manchester Block L, Block XIII., Pohangina Survey District—to be called “No. 6 Special Rating District.” Such rate to be an annual-recurring rate, payable at the Board’s office by equal half-yearly instalments, on the 1st day of April and
