THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE. [No. 84
And whereas I have occasion to be temporarily absent from the said colony for a short period, and, there being no Lieutenant-Governor in the Colony of New Zealand, I have deemed it expedient to appoint a Deputy during such temporary absence, with such powers and authorities on my behalf as are hereinafter mentioned:
Now, therefore, know ye that, for the purposes aforesaid, and in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the hereinbefore-in-part-recited Letters Patent, and of every other power and authority enabling me in that behalf, I, the said Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, as such Governor as aforesaid, do, by these presents issued under the Public Seal of the Colony of New Zealand, constitute and appoint the Honourable Sir Robert Stout, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Chief Justice of the said colony, to be my Deputy during the period of my temporary absence as aforesaid, and in that capacity for me and on my behalf to exercise, perform, and execute all the powers and authorities vested in me as such Governor by the said Letters Patent.
And I hereby declare that the power and authority hereby conferred shall commence and take effect upon and after my departure from the said colony.
And I expressly direct that my said Deputy shall, in the exercise of all or any of the said powers and authorities, conform to and abide by the requirements of any law, statute, or regulation in force in the colony respecting the same, and also to the hereinbefore in part recited Letters Patent and the Royal Instructions accompanying the same so far as they are applicable.
In witness whereof I have caused these presents to be passed under the Public Seal of the Colony of New Zealand, and have hereunto set my hand, this twenty-ninth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred.
