Commissioner's Decisions under Tariff Acts.

Department of Trade and Customs,
Wellington, 11th September, 1900.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Commissioner of Trade and Customs has decided to interpret the Customs and Excise Duties Acts in relation to the under-mentioned articles as follows:—

NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the colony” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus * are revised decisions.

Articles, and how classed. Rate of Duty.
1900/784. Boxed robes, made up by tucking, hemming, or with insertions of lace, muslin, calico, or any other material; as apparel, &c., n.o.e. (item 89) 25 per cent.
1900/784. Calico, lawns, or any other textiles in the piece, tucked or partly made up; as apparel, &c., n.o.e. (item 89) 25 per cent.
1900/763. Carpet-sweepers, with self-acting revolving brush; as brushware n.o.e. 25 per cent.
“Crust chamois, viz., unfinished but partly dressed leather, as leather n.o.e., 1d. the lb.,” on page 14 of Decision-book, should read “Crust chamois, &c., as chamois leather, 20 per cent.”: vide page 10 of Decision-book.
1900/778. Lancet probes, “Duplex,” for cows; as surgical appliances Free.
*1900/796. Planet Junior implements, as described on page 40 of the Decision-book: These decisions are extended to cover similar implements by any maker.
1900/662. Wooden boxes for holding school-children’s pens and pencils; as woodenware n.o.e. 20 per cent.

NOTE.—The under-mentioned decisions were omitted from their proper alphabetical order in the revised book, and are now republished:—

Notice published pursuant to the Provisions of Section 15 of “The Public Trust Office Consolidation Act, 1894.”

NOTICE is hereby given that, no person having taken out administration, the Public Trustee has filed in the office of the Supreme Court at Wellington an election to administer the several intestate estates of the persons deceased whose names, residences, and occupations, so far as known, are hereunder respectively set forth, their gross properties being estimated not to exceed £250 in each case.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

Mines Office,
Wellington, 7th June, 1900.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

  1. That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1903, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1904.
