IN THE VALIDATION COURT,
WELLINGTON DISTRICT.

In the matter of “The Native Land Court (Validation of Titles) Act, 1893,” and the amendments thereof; and in the matter of an application of Tamati Ranapiri (otherwise known as Thomas Ransfield) for the validation of his title to the block of land known as Pukehou No. 5G No. 1, containing 55 acres 2 roods 2 perches, being the whole of the land comprised in certificate of title, Vol. xlviii., folio 258, and part of the Pukehou No. 5G Block, erroneously called part of the Parauaku No. 1 Block, containing about 4 acres, being part of the land comprised in certificate of title, Vol. xxiii., folio 18.

To the Validation Court, constituted under the provisions of “The Native Land (Validation of Titles) Act, 1893.”

I, TAMATI RANAPIRI (otherwise known as Thomas Ransfield), of Otaki, in the Provincial District of Wellington, half-caste aboriginal native of New Zealand, do make application for validation of my title to the above-mentioned lands.

I am a half-caste aboriginal native of New Zealand, and a farmer, and reside at Otaki aforesaid.

I desire to appear before the Court to ask for relief on the 24th day of September, 1900, next, at the hour of 10 o’clock in the forenoon, at Otaki aforesaid.

The transactions proposed for validation are three conveyances, of which particulars are as follows:—

  1. Conveyance, dated the 31st day of October, 1879, whereby Mohi Heremaia, Piripi te Ra, Oriwia Kingi, Reweti te Kohu, and Ranao te Wharepakaru, all of Manawatu and Otaki, aboriginal natives of New Zealand, conveyed to me all their undivided shares in the Pukehou No. 5 Block for the price of £87.

  2. Conveyance, dated the 17th day of November, 1881, whereby Karanama te Whakeheke, of Otaki, aboriginal native of New Zealand, conveyed to me all his undivided share in the said Pukehou Block No. 5G for the price of £8.

  3. Conveyance, dated the 24th day of December, 1881, whereby Ruihi Piripi, of Otaki, aboriginal native of New Zealand, conveyed to me all her undivided share in the said Pukehou No. 5G Block for the price of £17 10s.

The land or interests in land which it was intended to be alienated by the said conveyances was the whole fee-simple in the lands above described of the vendors named in the said conveyances respectively. At the time of the execution of the above conveyances the title of the vendors named therein was an order under the 17th section of “The Native Lands Act, 1867,” and a certificate of title issued thereon.

I seek to obtain an unencumbered fee-simple title through the aid of this honourable Court.

I came to be invested with the title now held by me as purchaser under the above conveyances from the vendors named therein respectively.

The address for service of notices, orders, and other documents on me is the office of Messrs. Stafford, Treadwell, and Field, Solicitors, Panama Street, Wellington.

The persons on whom I require copies of this application to be served are the vendors named in the above conveyances respectively, or their representatives, and Rikihana Taruere, Wiremu te Manawha, Wiremu te Rikihana, Euerata te Rikihana, Pairoroku te Rikihana, Ruruhira te Rikihana, Rota Rikihana, Raita Rikihana, and Raita Wiremu, all of Otaki.

Dated this 24th day of December, 1896.

TAMATI RANAPIRI,
Or THOMAS RANSFIELD
(by his Solicitor and Agent,
