THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

That river known as the Waikaka River, from its confluence with the Mataura River to the ford on the main road leading to Waikaka Township at the northern boundary of Section 31, Block 3, Chatton Survey District. Date of gazetting of notice of application to proclaim, 7th September, 1899.
That tributary of the Waikaka River known as Garden Gully, from its source in Section 6, Block 1, Glenkenich Survey District, to its confluence with eastern branch of the Waikaka Stream; also tributaries of the said Garden Gully. Date of gazetting of notice of application to proclaim, 7th September, 1899.
That tributary of the Waikaka River known as Shepherd’s Creek, from its junction with Waikaka Stream in a northerly direction to the road forming the eastern and north-eastern boundaries of Section 3, Block 14, Chatton Survey District; with all its tributaries. Date of gazetting of notice of application to proclaim, 7th September, 1899.
The Little Waikaka River, or East Branch, with all its tributaries, to their sources. Date of gazetting of notice of application to proclaim, 7th September, 1899.
That river known as the Waiau River, which flows southerly from Lake Manapouri for a distance of about sixty-four miles to the sea; together with the tributaries thereof, with the exception of the tributary known as the Hollyburn. Date of gazetting of notice of application to proclaim, 14th September, 1899.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS under the authority of “The Electric Lines Act, 1884” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), the Governor in Council is empowered from time to time to make, alter, amend, and revoke regulations fixing and determining the fees and rates to be demanded and received for the transmission of any telegram: And whereas the fees heretofore received for the transmission over electric lines belonging to the Government of New Zealand of telegrams despatched for delivery at places beyond New Zealand, or received from such places for delivery in New Zealand, have been levied in respect of telegrams to or from places in New Zealand and Australia or Tasmania at the rate of sixpence for ten words or any number of words less than ten, and in respect of telegrams to or from all other such places at the rate of one penny for each word: And whereas it is desired to alter the fees for such transmission in the manner hereinafter mentioned:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authority vested in him by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby abolish the fees aforesaid, and in lieu thereof doth make the regulations and fix the fees set forth in the Schedule hereto for the purposes hereinbefore mentioned, and doth order and declare that such regulations and fees shall have effect on and from the first publication of this Order in Council in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
The inland rate, to be known as the “New Zealand terminal rate,” to be levied on telegrams transmitted to or received from places beyond New Zealand, to be called “cable telegrams,” shall be fixed at 1d. per word.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this sixteenth day of July, 1900.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Education Act, 1877,” His Excellency the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the colony, doth hereby make the regulation hereto annexed regarding certain payments of capitation allowance to Education Boards; and, with the like advice and consent, doth hereby prescribe that this Order shall come into force on the date of the first publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
REGULATION.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in an Order in Council made on the 5th day of January, 1888, under the provisions of “The Education Act, 1877,” relating (inter alia) to attendance registers and returns, the payment of capitation allowance to Education Boards for the quarter ending on the 30th day of September, 1900, shall be according to the working-average attendance of the quarter ending on the 30th day of June, 1900, as working average was defined by Order in Council dated the 5th day of July, 1887, and made under the provisions of the before-mentioned Act.

Altering Boundaries of the Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, and Otago Deeds Registration Districts.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this sixteenth day of July, 1900.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section four of “The Deeds Registration Act, 1868,” it is enacted that the Governor, by Order in Council, may from time to time define and alter the limits of any deeds registration district under the said Act: And whereas it is expedient to alter the boundaries of the Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, and Otago Deeds Registration Districts in manner hereinafter appearing:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the power hereinbefore recited, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, hereby order and declare that the boundaries of the said Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, and Otago Districts shall, on and after the twentieth day of July, one thousand nine hundred, be as described and set forth in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON LAND DISTRICT.
All that area in the Colony of New Zealand bounded towards the north-east and north-west generally by the ocean, from Cape Farewell to Pelorus Sound: thence towards the south-east generally by the Marlborough Land District, hereinafter described, to the boundary between the Tarn-dale and St. Helen’s Runs; thence by the boundary-line between the St. Helen’s and Tarn-dale Runs to the Clarence River; thence by a line along the middle of that river to Lake Tennyson; thence by the eastern shore of that lake and by St. James’s Run to the summit of the Spenser Mountains; thence by the summit of the Spenser Mountains over Mount Humboldt and Mount Una, and by the summit of the main watershed over Travers Peak and Mount Barron to Amuri Pass; thence by the summit of the watershed to Hope Pass, and by the summit of the watershed over Mount Stapp to the Hurunui Pass: thence towards the south-west by a right line to where the Arnold River debouches from Lake Brunner; thence by a line along the middle of the Arnold River to the Grey River, and by a line along the middle of the Grey River to the sea: and towards the west generally by the sea to Cape Farewell: including D’Urville Island, Rabbit Island, Pepin Island, and adjacent islands.
MARLBOROUGH LAND DISTRICT.
All that area in the Colony of New Zealand bounded towards the north and east and south-east generally by the sea, from the entrance to Pelorus Sound to the mouth of the
