  • The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 363, against 357 in November—an increase of 6. The deaths in December were 217—an increase of 43 on the number in November. Of the total deaths, males contributed 111, females 106. Forty-four of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 20·28 per cent. of the whole number; 30 of these were under 1 year of age.

There were 63 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Seven men, 67, 70, 71, 77, 78, 79, 82, and six women, 65, 70, 71, 80, 82, 85, died at Auckland; five men, 67, 69 (two), 75, 77, and eleven women, 66 (three), 67, 70 (two), 72, 79, 80, 81, 88, at Wellington; two men, 76, 77, and four women, 67, 71, 76, 77, at Christchurch; twelve men, 65 (two), 66 (two), 67 (two), 69 (two), 71, 74, 78, 79, and sixteen women, 65, 66, 67, 68 (three), 69, 71, 72, 77, 79, 80 (three), 85, 97, at Dunedin.
