  2. The sum proposed to be borrowed for such purpose: £4,000 (part of a total sum of £7,170 intended to be eventually borrowed).
  3. The security for such loan proposed to be pledged is a special rate of 3d. in the pound on all the rateable property within the borough.

Sir,—I, Charles Edwin Major, Mayor of the Borough of Hawera, in the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, pursuant to section 39 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” give you notice that, on the 18th day of May, 1900, a poll of the burgesses of the said Borough of Hawera was taken under the provisions of the said Act, and also under the provisions of “The Local Government Voting Reform Act, 1899,” on a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow the sum of £24,000 by way of special loan under the provisions of the said Acts, a copy of which proposal is next hereinafter set out.

  2. The sum proposed to be borrowed for such purposes: £24,000, as set forth above.
  3. The security for such loan proposed to be pledged is a special rate of 1s. 3d. in the pound on all the rateable property within the borough, and the full amount of a water-rate leviable under section 325 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

BOROUGH OF STRATFORD.
THE following is the result of a poll, taken on Friday, 18th May, 1900, on a proposal by the Borough Council to borrow £8,000, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, for the purpose of constructing waterworks for the borough:—
Number of voters voting for the proposal, 147, exercising 147 votes; number of voters voting against the proposal, 1, exercising 1 vote.

The number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal being at the least three-fifths of the votes recorded, I hereby declare the proposal carried.

BOROUGH OF STRATFORD.
THE following is the result of a poll, taken on Friday, 18th May, 1900, on a proposal by the Borough Council to borrow £3,000, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, for the purpose of constructing drainage-works for the borough:—
Number of voters voting for the proposal, 146, exercising 146 votes; number of voters voting against the proposal, 2, exercising 2 votes.

The number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal being at the least three-fifths of the votes recorded, I hereby declare the proposal carried.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Hutt River District, County of Hutt.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Hutt River Board, is published in accordance with “The River Boards Act, 1884.”

In the matter of “The River Boards Act, 1884,” and the amendments thereof; and in the matter of the Hutt River District.

To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.
Notice is hereby given that at a poll of the persons entitled to vote at elections of members of the Hutt River Board, held on the 16th day of May, 1900, upon a proposal to borrow, on the security of a special rate of 1½d. in the pound to be made and levied within the Hutt River District on Class 1 of the lands within the said district (being the lands liable to great actual damage), and a special rate of ⅔d. in the pound to be made and levied within the said district on Class 2 of the said lands (being the lands liable to less actual damage), and a special rate of ¼d. in the pound to be made and levied within the said district on Class 3 of the said lands (being the lands indirectly liable to damage), a sum of £18,000 for the construction of protective works in the said district, and the acquisition of lands in connection therewith, and the payment of compensation to any person in connection with the carrying-out of the said work or the acquisition of the said land, and for paying engineering and other expenses in connection with the loan; and that the said loan be borrowed for a period of twenty-six years; and that the said special rate be set apart for providing the interest on and in connection with the said loan, and be made a continuing rate for a period of twenty-six years, equal to the currency of the loan,—there were 245 valid votes recorded in favour of the said proposal, and 110 against it. And notice is hereby further given that, the number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal having exceeded three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded, the resolution to borrow the said sum of £18,000 pursuant to the terms of the said proposal was duly carried.

Approving and appointing a Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by “The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1882,” I, the Minister acting for the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned warehouse to be a warehouse or place of security for the manufacture therein of perfumery and other articles in which spirit is a necessary ingredient, namely,—

Port of Wellington.
