along beneath the pipe, a shell arranged beneath the pipe
to enclose the jet, and provided at intervals with inlets to
admit air, and with an outlet at the end opposite the
auxiliary jet-piece, and an imperforate mixer-section be-
tween the air-inlets and the outlet.

in the motor, generator, condenser, and controlling appliances
of motor-cars.
Claims.—(1.) In a motor, the combination of a compound
high- and low-pressure cylinder provided with five ports or
passages as marked a to a⁴, with a single slide-valve having
five ports or passages as marked b to b⁴, and with a steam-
chest as C, substantially as described and shown. (2.) In a
motor vehicle, a steam-generator composed of the combina-
tion of a water-back as F¹, tubes as F², and steam-chambers
as F³, with a casing as F provided with burner-opening as
f¹ and exit-opening f⁴, substantially as described and shown.
(3.) In a motor vehicle, a liquid-fuel-supply regulator com-
posed of a casing k, k¹, and k², provided with branches K³,
K⁴, and K⁵, and set-screw k⁵, and having within it a dia-
phragm K¹, ferrule k³, valve k⁶, and spring k⁴, substantially
as described and shown. (4.) In a motor vehicle, an auto-
matic float water-supply regulator composed of a chamber
G¹ attached to generator by branches g and g¹, said chamber
having a lever G² carrying float-ball G centred within it,
combined with rod G³, lever G⁴, and valves G⁵ and G⁷, sub-
stantially as described and shown. (5.) In a motor vehicle,
an atmospheric condenser composed of cylindrical casing d,
having an inner cistern d¹ provided with tubes d² arranged
within it and combined with the fans d⁴, one at each end,
carried on a through shaft, and with spray-pipe d⁵ and steam-
trap d⁶, substantially as described and shown. (6.) In a motor
vehicle, the front-wheel steering-gear, composed of the com-
bination of the hand-lever L and parts marked L⁶, L⁷, and
L¹, with the bell-crank lever L² and parts marked L³, L⁴, L⁵,
and m, and with the front wheels, substantially as described
and shown. (7.) In a motor vehicle, the general combina-
tion and arrangement of the several improvements set forth
in the preceding claims, all substantially as described, and
shown in the drawings.

Claim.— The clutches C, C, lever-hooks C1, the horizontal
operating-shaft D, the yokes E, the collars G, G1, the metal
plates G2, G3, *slotted disc L, pawl K, and handle J, fitted
and working together, forming a window-cord clutching and
releasing mechanism for attachment to rope and balance-
weight windows, as described and illustrated.

means for splitting timber.
Description.—In carrying out my invention I make use of
an ordinary timber-jack, and employ therewith an appliance
consisting of two long metal links, so shaped as to pass
around the jack lengthwise on each side of its broader face,
and I attach each of these links or loops to a steel bar
having a bifurcated or claw-shaped end.
Claims.—(1.) The combination with a timber-jack of
means for splitting logs of timber and the like, substantially
as set forth. (2.) The improved means for splitting logs of
timber constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as
described.
