  • The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 367, against 427 in March—a decrease of 60. The deaths in April were 189—an increase of 4 on the number in March. Of the total deaths, males contributed 93, females 96. Sixty-five of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 34·39 per cent. of the whole number; 54 of these were under one year of age.

There were forty-four deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Four men, 68, 72, 75, 77, and four women, 65, 73, 87, 88, died at Auckland; two men, 67, 84, and six women, 65, 72, 75 (two), 78, 91, at Wellington; seven men, 66, 67 (two), 69 (two), 82, 84, and six women, 66, 68, 69, 76, 80, 85, at Christchurch; and eight men, 65, 66 (two), 67, 70, 72, 73, 90, and seven women, 67, 68 (two), 70, 71, 73, 77, at Dunedin.
