MAGNETIC VARIATION ON THE SOUTH COAST OF NEW ZEALAND.

NOTICE is hereby given that a new magnetic survey of the colony is now being taken in hand by the Lands and Survey Department. The following table for the South Island is the result of numerous observations which have lately been taken by the Survey Department. The observations seem to show a tendency to an increase of the easterly variation from that shown on the latest Admiralty charts by about ½° to ¾°.
Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty charts Nos. 2598, 1212, and all the New Zealand south coast charts.
