Rough pastoral land, partly covered with bush, some of it having been felled and laid down in grass between the years 1895 and 1898, these sections being originally part of the Whangamomona Improved-farm Settlement. The bush is light, principally tawa, and in some parts manuka scrub, with a little rimu, matai, and totara, with the usual undergrowth. The formation is papa. The Mangare Road is formed as a rough bridle-track; the Prospect Road is also open for horse traffic; while the Ohura Road is formed as a dray-road throughout the settlement. The distance from Stratford Railway-station is from forty to fifty-two miles, part of which is metalled, the Ohura Road being the future main road to connect with the main trunk railway.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-seventh day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

JOHN McKENZIE,
Minister of Lands.
