Claims.—(1.) In elevator-attachments for threshing-machines, the combination with the machine of an elevator capable of being wound and unwound by such as the winches G and H to the positions shown from Figs. 1 to 4, substantially as shown and as described and explained. (2.) An elevator capable of being extended to full length, and also of being folded so as not to overhang a threshing-machine, by means of winches which control the movements, substantially as set forth, and as illustrated in the drawing. No. 12498.—30th March, 1900.—JOHN ALEXANDER KINSELLA, of Agricultural Department, Wellington, New Zealand, Dairy Expert. Improved milk or cream receiving- and weighing-can for dairy factories and the like.
Claims.—(1.) In milk or cream weighing- and receiving-cans, the combination of the can with an excentric coned invert bottom for allowing the plug, levers, and rod to be on one side and permitting the can to rest fully on the weighing-table, substantially as described and as shown on the drawing. (2.) In milk or cream receiving- and weighing-cans, in combination, a taper plug attached to its lifting-rod on one side, thus allowing the plug to enter the plug-hole at the required angle, the said plug being packed, with a can-bottom shaped up like an inverted cone, the discharge being on one side of the said bottom, substantially as set forth, and for the purposes indicated. (3.) In weighing- and receiving-cans for milk or cream, the combination of the special shape of the bottom for discharging the whole of the contents to near one side, such as B, B¹, together with the special shape of the discharge-pipe, such as B², B³, and the trigger-spring such as G, for the purposes set forth, and as shown and described. (4.) The form of the weighted lever which keeps the plug suspended or pressed down at will in combination with the whole, substantially as set forth, and for the purposes indicated. No. 12499.—29th March, 1900.—JOHN WILLIAMSON, of Roslyn, Dunedin, New Zealand, Pattern-maker. An attachment for diverting drift and the like from the buckets of river-dredges.
Claims.—(1.) In combination, the lower tumbler and buckets of a dredge with a shield that is attached to any convenient part of the ladder or lifting-gear, for the purpose of keeping back and diverting any drift and allowing the buckets to lift wash, substantially as described and explained, and as illustrated in the drawing. (2.) A shield arranged in front of the buckets and ladder of any dredge for gold-dredging so that the buckets may still descend when the shield rests on the bottom, but that the said shield will be drawn up when the ladder is raised, substantially as described and shown, and for the purpose indicated. (Specification, 1s. 6d.; drawings, 3s.)

Claims.—(1.) A coat-adjustment consisting of one or more pairs of springs provided with studs, buttons, or other suitable fasteners of the nature and for the purpose set forth. (2.) In a coat or jacket, the combination and arrangement of one or more pairs of removable springs provided with studs or other catches with a corresponding pair of stud-holes in the coat-material, of the nature and for the purpose set forth. (3.) In a coat or jacket, the combination and arrangement of one or more pairs of removable springs (with or without stud attachments) with the corresponding sheaths therefor secured to the material of the garment, of the nature and for the purposes set forth. No. 12512.—6th April, 1900.—JAMES RITCHIE, of Princes Street, Dunedin, New Zealand, Ironmonger. Improvements in grates and ashpits.
Claims.—(1.) In grates, the combination of a plain grate for building a fire on, preferably about the level of the hearth or floor (such as B), with a deep ashpit containing an ashbox (such as C, C¹), and flue or flues conveying air from the outside of the room or building, with or without gratings and dampers (such as D¹, D², D), substantially as set forth and for the purposes indicated, and as shown in the drawing. (2.) In combination, a flat, plain grate B laid on recesses over a deep box in a pit C¹, C, and flues from outside the apartment to be warmed D¹, D², provided with dampers and gratings as described and D, the whole set within the wall and jambs and flue of an ordinary fireplace about the level or below the floor or hearth, substantially as set forth. (3.) In combination, flues drawing air for assisting combus-
tion from a lower room or space with the arrangement of ashpit, grate, damper, and gratings, with a movable box for ashes to be removed from the outside or through the grate, substantially as set forth, and for the purposes specified. (Specification, 1s. 9d.; drawings, 3s.)

Claims.—(1.) The combination and arrangement of parts comprising my improvement in a check action for venetian-blinds, substantially as described and illustrated. (2.) In a check action for venetian-blinds, the combination of line-pulleys carried in a bracket within independent pulley-frames, tail-pieces extending from said frames, and a cross-bar fixed to one tail-piece extending across and operating the others when a releasing-line attached to said cross-bar is pulled, substantially as specified and illustrated.
