New County of Whakatane divided into Ridings, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and “The Whakatane County Act, 1899,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby divide the new County of Whakatane as constituted by the said Acts into four ridings, to be called the Waimana Riding, the Omataroa Riding, the Opouriao Riding, and the Matata Riding, and declare that the boundaries thereof shall be those set forth under the names of the said ridings respectively in the Schedule hereto:
And I do hereby declare that one member shall be elected for the Waimana Riding, two members for the Omataroa Riding, two members for the Opouriao Riding, and two members for the Matata Riding:
And I do further declare that Wednesday, the fourteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred, shall be the day upon which the election of the first Council of the said County of Whakatane shall take place, and that Wednesday, the twenty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred, at eleven o’clock in the forenoon, shall be the time, and the Public Library, Whakatane, shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the said Council shall be held.
SCHEDULE.
WAIMANA RIDING.
Bounded towards the north-east and east generally by the Opotiki County, from the eastern boundary-line of Section No. 3, Block V., Whakatane Survey District, to the south-western boundary-line of Tahoma No. 2nd Block; thence towards the south generally by the south-western boundary-line of that block and parts of the southern boundary-lines of Waimana Nos. 1b and 1c Blocks to the south-western corner of the latter block; thence towards the west generally by the western boundaries of Waimana Nos. 1c and 1a Blocks to the Confiscation boundary-line; thence by that boundary-line to the Waimana Valley Road; thence by that road to a point in line with the eastern boundary-line of Section No. 322, Block IX., Whakatane Survey District; thence by a right line to the south-eastern corner of said Section No. 322; thence by that section and Section No. 310 to its north-eastern corner; thence by a right line to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 4, Block V., Whakatane Survey District; and thence by that section and Section No. 3 to the place of commencement.
OMATAROA RIDING.
Bounded towards the north generally by the sea; towards the east generally by the Opotiki County and the Waimana Riding hereinbefore described, from the sea to the Waimana Valley Road; thence towards the south generally by that road and the Waimana River to its confluence with the Whakatane River; thence by the said Whakatane River to the southern boundary-line of Section No. 32, Rangitaiki Parish; and thence by that boundary-line to the south-western corner of the said Section No. 32; and thence towards the west generally by the western boundary-lines of Sections Nos. 32, 31, 38, 30, 29, and 28, Rangitaiki Parish, to the sea.
OPOURIAO RIDING.
Bounded towards the north generally by the Omataroa Riding hereinbefore described, from the south-western corner of Section No. 32, Rangitaiki Parish, to the Waimana Riding hereinbefore described; thence towards the east generally by the said Waimana Riding, the Opotiki County, and Cook County; towards the south generally by Wairoa County; and towards the west generally by East Taupo County from the northern boundary of Wairoa County to the eastern boundary-line of Kuhawaea No. 1 Block; thence by that block and Waiohau No. 1b, Waiohau No. 1, Waiohau No. 2, and Tuararangaia Blocks to the Confiscation boundary-line; thence by that boundary-line to the south-western corner of Section No. 41, Rangitaiki Parish; and thence by the western boundary-lines of that section and Section No. 33 to the south-western corner of Section No. 32, the place of commencement.
MATATA RIDING.
Bounded towards the north generally by the sea; towards the east generally by the Omataroa and Opouriao Ridings hereinbefore described; towards the south by East Taupo County; and towards the west by Rotorua and Tauranga Counties.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this thirteenth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred.
