REGISTRAR-GENERAL'S Report on the Vital Statistics of the Principal Towns of New Zealand during the Month of November, 1900 :—

* The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 406, against 439 in October—a decrease of 33. The deaths in November were 169—a decrease of 9 on the number in October. Of the total deaths, males contributed 91, females 78. Forty of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 23.67 per cent. of the whole number; 35 of these were under one year of age.

There were thirty-four deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Nine men, 65, 67, 68 (two), 71, 75, 77, 79, 84, and one woman, 73, died at Auckland; four men, 66, 68, 69, 78, and one woman, 79, at Wellington; five men, 68, 70 (two), 85, 86, and two women, 75, 82, at Christchurch; and eight men, 66 (three), 68, 69 (two), 70, 82, and four women, 65, 66, 67, 72, at Dunedin.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportion per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs above given, registered during the Month of November, 1900.
