Section 4, good agricultural land, well watered, covered with fern and manuka. Section 7, part rough and broken, part undulating and swampy; soil fair, and well watered. Section 10, rough and broken, well watered, and contains small clump mixed bush. Section 11, nearly all flat agricultural land of good quality, well watered. Section 12, about 150 acres flat and undulating, balance broken; soil on flat good; well watered. Section 13, about 130 acres mixed forest of good quality, balance fern and tea-tree; well watered; undulating to broken. Sections are situated about five miles from Otorohanga Railway station.

Undulating land, with patches of mixed forest, balance fern and tea-tree land; soil fair quality and well watered, and of sandstone formation. Five miles from Otorohanga.

Duty on “Fibre Conduit-pipes.”

IN exercise of the powers in me for that purpose vested by “The Customs and Excise Duties Act, 1888,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby direct that from and after the date hereof there shall be levied upon “fibre conduit-pipes,” and fittings for same, which possess properties in whole or in part which can be used for similar purposes as pipes of iron, and fittings for same, a duty of five per centum ad valorem.

As witness the hand of Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, for and on behalf of His Excellency the Governor, and as his duly appointed Deputy, this twenty-ninth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Notice of Election of Chairman and Members of the Board of Conciliation for the Canterbury Industrial District.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1894,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that

THOMAS GAPES, of Christchurch, Oil and Colour Merchant;
ALBERT PALMER, of Christchurch, Builder;
WILLIAM WILLIAMS, of Christchurch, Bootmaker; and
CHARLES TAYLOR, of Addington, Carpenter,

have been duly elected as members, and

ARTHUR HUGHES TURNBULL, of Christchurch, Merchant,

has been duly elected as Chairman, of the Board of Conciliation in and for the Canterbury Industrial District.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this third day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Altering the Name of the Borough of Newton.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by sections two and three of “The Designation of Districts Act, 1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that the Governor in Council may, at the request or with the consent of the Council of any county, city, or borough, alter the geographical name or designation of any place or locality in the colony:

And whereas the Newton Borough Council has requested that the present name of “Newton” be altered as hereinafter mentioned, and it appears expedient to comply with such request:

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that the Borough of Newton aforesaid shall, on and after the sixteenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, be called and known by the name of “Grey Lynn,” and the name of the said Borough of Newton is hereby altered accordingly.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.
