PURSUANT to section 2 of “The Education Reserves Act 1877 Amendment Act, 1882,” the under-mentioned gentlemen have been appointed by the Education Boards respectively authorised in that behalf to be School Commissioners for the several provincial districts as follows:—

HIS Excellency the Governor, by his Deputy, has been pleased to accept the resignation of the commission held by

Nelson Rifle Volunteers, as from the 8th March, 1899, and to approve of that officer being transferred to the Honorary Unattached List, New Zealand Volunteers, under paragraph 262, Volunteer Regulations, 1895, with effect from the above date.

Special Order made by the Manganui Road Board, County of Stratford.

THE following special order, made by the Manganui Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

MANGANUI ROAD BOARD.

Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made on Monday, 6th March, 1899, and confirmed on Monday, 10th April, 1899:—

“That to secure the repayment of a loan of £600, raised under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of draining, forming, metalling, and building bridge on the upper portion of York Road, commencing at the Derby Road and extending westward; to strike as security on this loan a special rate of 9d. in the pound over the following lands—namely, Sections 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, Block XVI., Egmont Survey District—and to set aside the land-fund money accruing to the above sections towards paying interest on loan. Such rate to be an annually recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st January and the 1st July in each year, if required.”

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

THE following special order, made by the Ashley Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

ASHLEY ROAD BOARD.

Special Order.

Resolved, That the Board doth make a special order regulating the cartage of timber and stone over the various roads and bridges throughout the district.

The Board hereby makes the following by-laws :—
I. The load of any vehicle shall not exceed 4 tons.
II. The load of any vehicle having tires 3 in. in width shall not exceed 2½ tons to one pair of wheels.
III. The load of any vehicle having tires 2½ in. in width shall not exceed 1½ tons to one pair of wheels.
IV. Traction-engines drawing any description of load shall not travel at a greater rate of speed than one mile an hour over any bridge or culvert.
V. Any person committing a breach of any of the above by-laws will render himself liable to a penalty of £5.

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Taratahi-Carterton Road District, County of Wairarapa South.

TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.

Result of Poll for Loan.

I HEREBY give public notice that the poll for No. 4 Subdivision of the Taratahi-Carterton Road District, taken on the 4th day of April, 1899, on the proposal to raise a loan of £200, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and their respective amendments, for the purpose of constructing Para Road, resulted as follows :—

Total number of voters on the roll, 26 ; total number of votes exercisable by them, 47 : Number of voters who voted for the proposal, 13 ; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 23 ; number of voters who voted against the proposal, 1 ; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 4 ; number of votes unrecorded, 20.

As more than one-half of the total number of ratepayers on the special roll, having more than one-half of the total number of votes exercisable, did not vote for the proposal, I hereby declare the proposal to be lost.

Dated this 10th day of April, 1899.
