Terms and Conditions of Lease of Village-homestead Allot-
ments in Canterbury.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this eighteenth
day of January, 1899.

WHEREAS by the one-hundred-and-sixty-ninth section
of “The Land Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the
Governor in Council may fix the terms and conditions upon
which the lands in any village settlement shall be disposed
of, subject as in the said section is provided: And whereas
by a Proclamation made under the said Act on the seventeenth
day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-
eight, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the
twentieth day of December, one thousand eight hundred
and ninety-eight, the lands described in the First Schedule
hereto have been set apart under the said Act and declared
open for lease as village-homestead allotments, and it is
expedient to fix the terms and conditions upon which the
said lands shall be disposed of:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
and authorities conferred by the said Act, and by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby fix the terms and conditions on which
the lands mentioned in the First Schedule hereto shall be
disposed of by way of lease in perpetuity, and which said
terms and conditions are set forth in the Second Schedule
hereto, and also doth direct that the lands shall be leased as
village-homestead allotments only.

This section is situated at the eastern end of the Ruapuna
Village Settlement, lying on the Shepherd’s Bush Plains,
between the Hinds and Rangitata Rivers, about seven miles
westward from Mayfield, and eighteen miles north-westward
from Hinds Railway-station. The section comprises open
level land, the soil being of fair quality, with vegetation of
tussock-grass and clover. The section is weighted with a
valuation of £27 for boundary-fencing.
GERALDINE COUNTY.—ORARI TOWNSHIP.

This section is situated in the Orari Township, with front-
age on Opihi and Slack Streets, about three-quarters of a
mile southward from the Orari Railway-station, and com-
prises open level land. The section is weighted with a valu-
ation of £11 for boundary-fencing.
