NOTICE is hereby given that the Commissioners appointed under “The Urewera District Native Reserve Act, 1896,” will sit at Ruatoki on Tuesday, the 7th instant, and afterwards at Waimana, Te Houhi, Te Whaiti, Ruatahuna, Maungapohatu, and Te Waimako, to inquire as to what people are entitled to lands within the boundaries described in “The Urewera District Native Reserve Act, 1896.”

Stratford Borough Council to be subject to the Provisions of “The Public Bodies’ Powers Act, 1887.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of February, 1899.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS by section four of “The Public Bodies’ Powers Act, 1887” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that the Governor, by Order in Council, may from time to time declare that any leasing authority shall be subject to the provisions of the said Act, but that no such Order shall have any effect unless it be issued at the request or upon the recommendation of the leasing authority on whose behalf such Order is issued :

And whereas it has been made to appear that the Stratford Borough Council are a leasing authority within the meaning of the said Act, and have requested that they may be brought under the provisions thereof :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by the said Act, doth hereby order and declare that from and after the date hereof the Stratford Borough Council shall be subject to the provisions of “The Public Bodies’ Powers Act, 1887.”;

Altering the Name of the Borough of Newton.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by sections two and three of “The Designation of Districts Act, 1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that the Governor in Council may, at the request or with the consent of the Council of any county, city, or borough, alter the geographical name or designation of any place or locality in the colony :

And whereas the Newton Borough Council has requested that the present name of “Newton” be altered as hereinafter mentioned, and it appears expedient to comply with such request :

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that the Borough of Newton aforesaid shall, on and after the sixteenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, be called and known by the name of “Grey Lynn,” and the name of the said Borough of Newton is hereby altered accordingly.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.
