HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint

JOHN STEVENSON

to be Returning Officer for the purpose of conducting the first election of five members of the Maungatua Land-drainage District, as constituted under “The Land Drainage Act, 1893”; also to appoint Friday, the 19th day of January, 1900, to be the date, and the Cranley Dairy Factory to be the place, for holding such election; also to appoint Friday, the 26th day of January, 1900, at 11 o’clock a.m., to be the time, and the Cranley Dairy Factory to be the place, at which the first meeting of Trustees shall be held.

THE following special order, made by the Parihaka Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

Special Order.

THAT, to secure the repayment of a loan of £1,200 raised under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of draining, forming, culverting, and metalling the Opua Road from the end of the present metal, about 7 chains east of the western boundary of Section 53, Block 9, to a point about 15 chains east of western boundary of Subsection 19, Block 7, a special rate of 3d. in the pound be made and levied over the following lands, viz.: Subsections 9 and 11, Block 6; 5, 6, 13, 15, and 17, Block 7; 2, 3, and 4, Block 10; and half of each of Subsections 7, Block 6; 7 and 19, Block 7; and Section 53, Block 9, all of which are situated in the Opunake Survey District, and constituting the Opua No. 2 Special Rating District: such rate to be an annually recurring rate for twenty-six years, payable on the 1st day of January in each year.

THE following special order, made by the Hunua Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

HUNUA ROAD DISTRICT.

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Hunua Road Board at their Meeting held on Monday, 13th November, 1899.

THAT this Board make a special order to borrow from the Government, under the provisions of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” the sum of £700 for the purpose of compensation for land required for the new Hunua Main Road, together with the expenses in connection with raising the loan. The interest and sinking fund for the same to be met and secured by an annual-recurring special rate for twenty-six years of 1½d. in the pound upon the following properties, and to be called the Hunua Main Road Special Rating Division: namely, Section, 65 acres 2 roods, being north-east part of Section 81, Block IV., and Sections 79, 179, 9, 213, 10, 13, 70, 40, 47, 15, 59, 68, 17, 45, 73, 74, 53, 52, 51, 24, 25, 87, 88, 130, 228A, 18, 12, 14, 11, 16, 123, 23, 90, 92, 94, 95, 96, 227, 97, 129, 126, 122, 121, 82, 93, 44, 53, 50, 54, 56, 26, 72, 71, 127, and all the properties on the eastern side of River Road, and recently transferred from the Opaheke Road District into the Hunua Road District; also four parts of Section 52, as recently transferred from the Opaheke North Road District into the Hunua Road District by Order in Council of 26th of January, 1899, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of 2nd February, 1899.

That a meeting of ratepayers of the said division is called for Monday, 13th November, at 5 p.m., in the Hunua Schoolhouse, to consider the said proposals; and that a poll will be taken on Saturday, 2nd day of December, 1899, at the Hunua Schoolhouse, between the hours of 9 o’clock a.m. and 6 o’clock p.m.

I hereby certify that the foregoing special order has been made in accordance with law, and that all the provisions of the Road Boards Act and the Local Bodies’ Loan Act of 1886 have been complied with.

HUNUA ROAD DISTRICT.—MAIN ROAD SPECIAL RATING DIVISION.

Public Notice.

THE following is the result of the poll on the proposal to borrow the sum of £700, under the provisions of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for compensation of land required for new main road and the cost of raising the loan:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 59; number of votes exercisable, 62: Number of votes recorded in favour, 41; number of votes recorded against, nil; number of votes not exercised, 21.

As a majority in number of votes and voters were in favour of the proposal, I therefore declare the said proposal carried.

[No. 27.]—PORT PHILLIP BAY.—SHOAL IN WEST CHANNEL.

Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 13, dated 1st June, 1899, it is hereby notified that the Queenscliff black cask buoy has been shifted to the eastward of the shoal patch, and is now moored in 14ft. of water, with the northern extremity of the L end of the new pier bearing S. 70° W., 4 cables distant.

This affects General Notice to Mariners, Victoria, 1898, page 61.
