Rural Lands in the Rangitikei County, Wellington, for Sale or Selection.
District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, 6th December, 1898.
THE under-mentioned Crown lands will be open for sale or selection, in terms of section 136 of “The Land Act, 1892,” either for cash, for occupation with right of purchase, or for lease in perpetuity, at the option of the selector, on and after Tuesday, the 24th day of January, 1899.
If more than one application be received for the same section on the same day, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day, at 11 a.m., at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington.

Section 2 is situated on the Kaweka Road. The access is from Mangaweka, which is about twelve miles distant by the Mangaweka, Te Kapua, and Kaweka Roads, which are open for horse traffic to within a mile of the section. The section comprises hilly forest country, with flat-topped spurs. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest is fairly heavy, comprising kahikatea, matai, miro, rimu, totara, rata, hinau, maire, and papauma, with a thick undergrowth of konini, karamu, houhou, mahoe, and rangiora. The section is watered by small streams. The elevation ranges from about 2,000 ft. to 2,500 ft. above sea-level.
Section 3 is situated on the Kaweka and Mataroa Roads. The access is from Mangaweka, which is about thirteen miles distant by the Mangaweka, Te Kapua, and Kaweka Roads, which are open for horse traffic to within about two miles of the section. The Mataroa Road, when completed, will provide another access from Mangaweka. The section comprises hilly forest country, with flat-topped spurs. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest is fairly heavy, comprising kahikatea, matai, miro, rimu, totara, rata, hinau, maire, and papauma, with a thick undergrowth of houhou, konini, karamu, mahoe, and rangiora. The section is watered by small streams. The elevation ranges from about 2,200 ft. to 2,700 ft. above sea-level.

The former is now being opened for horse traffic about three miles and a half, to its junction with the Makohine and Mataroa Roads, and a good pack-track follows the latter to the section.
