Proclaiming Saltwater Creek (or Paroa River), in the Land District of Nelson, together with its Tributaries, to be Watercourses.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the one-hundred-and-fifty-second section of “The Mining Act, 1891” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is enacted that the Governor in Council may from time to time, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, proclaim and declare that any watercourse shall be a watercourse into which tailings, mining débris, and waste water of any kind used in, upon, or discharged from any claim or licensed holding shall be suffered to flow or be discharged:

And whereas not less than ninety days’ notice has been published, in the manner provided by the said section, that application has been made to the Governor to proclaim the watercourses hereinafter mentioned, and their tributaries, to be watercourses for the purposes of the said section mentioned:

And whereas His Excellency the Governor has decided to exercise the powers conferred upon him by the said Act:

Now, therefore, His Excellency Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers conferred by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby proclaim and declare that the following creek and all its tributaries, in the Land District of Nelson, shall be watercourses into which tailings, mining débris, and waste water of every kind used in, upon, or discharged from any claim or licensed holding adjacent to such watercourses shall be suffered to flow or be discharged; and, with the like advice and consent, His Excellency doth hereby prescribe that this Proclamation shall take effect on and after the eighth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

NELSON LAND DISTRICT.

That creek known as Saltwater Creek (or Paroa River), and all its tributaries, from its source to where it discharges into the sea, about four miles south of the Grey River.

Declaring a Portion of the Main Trunk Road through Mangaweka Township to be a County Road.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-fifth day of November, 1898.

Present:

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE R. J. SEDDON PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in him by “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order that that portion of the road known as the Main Trunk Road through Mangaweka Town, and extending to Raumaewa’s Reserve, described in the Schedule below, and which was made by the Governor under the powers contained in the said Act, and has hitherto been a Government road, shall, on and after the date of this Order in Council, become a county road.


SCHEDULE.

ALL that portion of the Main Trunk Road which passes through the Town of Mangaweka, and extends from Section No. 47 of Mangaweka Village Settlement to Raumaewa’s Reserve; as the same is delineated upon the plan marked S.G. 39213A, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured red.

Regulations under “The Urewera District Native Reserve Act, 1896.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-fifth day of November, 1898.

Present:

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE R. J. SEDDON PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by the twenty-fourth section of “The Urewera District Native Reserve Act, 1896” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is enacted that the Governor in Council may from time to time make such regulations as he thinks necessary for, inter alia, giving effect to anything which by the Act is expressed to be prescribed, and for any other purpose for which regulations are contemplated by the Act, or which he deems necessary in order to give full effect to the Act:

And whereas it is expedient that regulations should be made governing the procedure of the Commissioners appointed under the provisions of the said Act:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by the said Act, and acting by and with the consent and advice of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby make and prescribe the regulations contained in the Schedule hereto, and doth hereby declare that such regulations shall come into force on the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.


SCHEDULE.

REGULATIONS UNDER “THE UREWERA DISTRICT NATIVE RESERVE ACT, 1896.”

  1. The Commissioners shall hold their first meeting at a time and place to be fixed by the Native Minister, and such time and place shall be gazetted.

  2. Subsequent meetings of the Commissioners shall be held at such times and places as shall be fixed by the Chairman, and due notice of such time and place shall be given by notice in the Gazette and Kahiti.

  3. The Chairman, or any two Commissioners, may adjourn any meeting from time to time or from place to place.

  4. The Chairman of the Commission shall be one of the European Commissioners, who shall be elected by the remaining Commissioners. In the absence of the Chairman the other European Commissioner shall act as Chairman.

  5. Four Commissioners, including one European Commissioner, shall constitute a quorum.

  6. Minutes of the proceedings of the Commissioners shall be kept in a book provided for that purpose.

  7. The Commissioners may make by-laws for the conduct of their proceedings, and for the order and good conduct of persons attending the proceedings.
