GENERAL DESCRIPTION.

This block is situated between the Hautapu River and Otaihape Stream, and extends westward from the Taihape Township Block about two miles, the centre of the block being about one mile and a half north-west of the Township of Taihape. The area comprises generally undulating and broken hills, intersected for the greater part by the Pukenua Stream and its branches, the latter being a permanent stream, easily accessible, and the country falling into it, consisting of easy faces and sloping ridges, with a fine flat extending up the western boundary of the block and in an eastern direction to Trig. LL—, the face between the latter and Kaka Road being rather steep. The block, which consists of 642 acres of cleared and grassed land, and 243 acres of bush, is fairly well watered. The bush is of rimu, kahikatea, matai, miro, and maire, with some good totara at intervals. The undergrowth includes mahoe, karamau, rangiora, and houhou. The formation is papa and sandstone, the soil varying from fair to good. The block is connected with Taihape Township by one mile and a half of formed road, one mile of which is dray-road, and the balance being a 6 ft. horse-track. Taihape Township, situated on the Hunterville—Tokaanu Main Road, is distant, by that road, from the Mangaonoho Railway-station, twenty-eight miles. The country is from 1,500 ft. to 2,200 ft. above sea-level, and when in working-order should prove suitable for dairy-farming purposes.
