Section 12 is situated on the Kaka Road. The access is from Taihape, which is about 4½ miles distant via Adamson’s Track Road, and 2¼ miles by the Kaka Road; the former having 2 miles of dray-road and the balance formed horse-track, and the latter 1 mile of dray-road and the remainder formed horse-track. The section comprises rather steep and broken country in southern portion, but fine flat hill-tops in northern part, which is higher. The bush was felled and burnt off last season, and area sown with grass-seed in autumn. The soil is of very fair quality, from 4 in. to 9 in. in depth, resting on papa formation. There are a few totara and maire trees standing, and a few matai over 4 ft. in diameter. The section is poorly watered by small streams and springs. The elevation ranges from about 1,900 ft. to 2,180 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise the whole area cleared and carefully grassed, the young grass coming up well.
Section 13 is situated on the Kaka Road. The access is from Taihape, which is about 2 miles distant via Kaka Road, and 4¾ miles by Adamson’s Track Road; the former having 1 mile fit for dray traffic and balance of distance a formed 6 ft. horse-track, the latter has 2 miles of dray-road and 2¾ miles of formed 6 ft. horse-track. The section comprises some fine even country in centre and north end, with southern end rather steep, falling into Kaka Road. The bush was felled and burnt off last season, and the area sown with grass-seed in autumn. The soil is of good quality, 4 in. to 10 in. in depth, resting on papa formation. The totara and maire trees are left standing, and a few matai over 4 ft. in diameter. The section is poorly watered by small streams and springs. The elevation ranges from about 1,800 ft. to 2,200 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise the whole area cleared and carefully grassed, with the young grass coming up well.

Land in Levin Village Settlement for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.
District Lands and Survey Office,

THE under-mentioned Crown land will be open for selection on lease in perpetuity, at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, 4th January, 1899. If more than one application be received on the same day, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day, at 11 a.m., at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington.
If not applied for on the 4th January, 1899, the section will be open for application thereafter at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington.

This section is situated on the main street of Levin Township, close to the Post-office, school, and the main business portion of the town. It consists of fair soil on a shingle formation, and is open land.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

The land enumerated above is first-class land, and a village-homestead allotment, open for selection on lease in perpetuity under the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892” (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”).

The day on which the land shall be open for selection shall be Wednesday, the 4th day of January, 1899.

The rental stated hereon shall be the price at which the land shall be open for selection.

Applications for leases shall be made in manner as provided in Part I. of the said Act; and all such applications shall be made to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Wellington; and leases will be issued in accordance with the provisions of Part I. aforesaid.

Each applicant shall state his or her residence, occupation, and condition in life (namely, whether married or single), and will be required to make the declaration prescribed in Schedule C of the said Act.

Each applicant shall pay the first half-year’s rent, together with the lease- and registration-fee, and the valuation for improvements (if any), immediately the application has been approved or declared successful at the ballot.

All rents must be paid half-yearly, in advance, on the 1st days of January and July in each year, as provided in section 157 of the said Act; and the first half-year’s rent is payable as before provided.

No lessee shall apply for or hold more than one allotment, and such allotment shall be held for his or her sole use and benefit, and not for the use or benefit of any other person whomsoever. No married woman shall be eligible as a selector; but this provision shall not apply to any married woman who may become a transferee under a will or by virtue of an intestacy.

Improvements and residence on the land comprised in each lease shall be as provided in Part III. of the said Act. The provisions of section 144, and all other provisions of the said Act with respect to substantial improvements, shall apply accordingly to lessees under these regulations. The provisions of section 141, and all other provisions of the said Act in respect of compulsory residence, shall apply accordingly to lessees under these regulations.

No lessee shall subdivide, sublet, or transfer the land held by him under these regulations, except under and subject to the provisions of Part I. of the said Act.

All the provisions of the said Act, so far as applicable, shall extend and apply to the lands affected by these regulations, and to the applications and leases to be made and issued thereunder, and generally to the interests created, and the persons whose rights, liabilities, or interests are thereby affected; and the mention of any particular provision of the said Act shall not be deemed to exclude any other provision of the said Act applicable to the particular case.

Sections in Township of Hunterville for Lease by Tender.

Wellington, 16th November, 1898.
WRITTEN tenders will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, the 18th January, 1899, for the lease of the under-mentioned sections. If any sections are unapplied-for on the 18th January, 1899, they will remain open for selection at the upset rentals, and for the terms stated herein.

Sections 163 and 164 are situated in a central position in the township, close to the railway-station, and comprise level land. The sections are offered subject to the diversion of the Porewa Stream, as cut by the local body, being kept clear and open.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

Tenders must be accompanied by marked cheque or post-office order for six months’ rent at the rate offered, together with £1 1s. lease-fee.

Possession will be given on the day of acceptance of tender.

The Commissioner of Crown Lands may at any time resume possession of the land comprised in the license by giving twelve months’ notice to the licensee thereof of his intention to do so.

The licensee shall have no right to compensation either for any improvements that may be placed upon the land or on account of the aforesaid resumption, nor for any other cause.

The licensee shall have no right to sublet, transfer, or otherwise dispose of the land comprised in this license except with the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.

The land shall not be cropped nor broken up without the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.

The licensee shall destroy all rabbits on the land, and he shall prevent their increase or spread to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.
