Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 414, against 351 in September—an increase of 63. The deaths in October were 191—a decrease of 1 on the number in September. Of the total deaths, males contributed 112, females 79. Sixty of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 34·55 per cent. of the whole number; 51 of these were under 1 year of age. There were 39 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Seven men, 66, 68, 69, 73 (two), 77, 88, and five women, 65, 66, 71, 75, 83, died at Auckland; eight men, 67, 68, 70, 76 (two), 79, 87, 90, and two women, 71, 77, at Wellington; two men, 68, 75, and four women, 65, 68, 69, 78, at Christchurch; and five men, 65, 71, 77, 79, 83, and six women, 72, 78 (two), 79, 83 (two), at Dunedin.
