THE under-mentioned village-homestead allotments will be open for selection on lease in perpetuity on and after Thursday, 22nd December, 1898.
If more than one application be received for the same section on the same day, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day, at 11 a.m., at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington.

Section 6 is situated on the Pukenua Road. The access is from Taihape, which is about 2½ miles distant, via Adamson’s Track Road, formed for dray traffic, for 2 miles, and thence by Pukenua Road horse-track, formed 6 ft. wide, bridged, and in good order. The section comprises low-lying flat ridges, that have been cleared, burnt off, and sown in grass during the last summer and autumn. The burn being a good one, the ground is very clean. About 20 acres of flat land in the centre, and nice slope from Pukenua Road; higher ground lying to the south-east corner. The soil is of good quality, 4 in. to 12 in. in depth, resting on papa formation. Totara and maire trees standing, and a few matai over 4 ft. in diameter. The section is fairly watered by small streams and springs, with the Pukenua Stream across the road available. The elevation ranges from about 1,500 ft. to 1,820 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise whole area grassed.
Section 8 is situated on the Pukenua Road. The access is from Taihape, which is about 2½ miles distant, via Adamson’s Track Road, formed for dray traffic, for 2 miles, and thence by Pukenua Road horse-track, formed 6 ft. wide, bridged, and in good order. The section comprises easy flat ridges and good face to Pukenua Road. Bush felled and burned off last season, and ground carefully sown with good mixture of grass-seed. A few large totara, maire, and matai trees standing. Some flat ground about centre of section. The soil is of good quality, 4 in. to 10 in. in depth, resting on papa formation. Totara and maire trees standing, and a few matai over 4 ft. in diameter. The section is fairly well watered by small streams and springs, with the Pukenua Stream available across the road. The elevation ranges from about 1,620 ft. to 1,880 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise whole area grassed.
Section 10 is situated on the Pukenua Road. The access is from Taihape, which is about 3 miles distant via Adamson’s Track Road, and 3½ miles distant via Kaka Road; the former having 2 miles of dray-road with balance of distance good formed pack-track, the latter having 1 mile of dray-road and 2½ miles of good pack-track. The section comprises good country with fine northern aspect, some flat ground about centre and towards eastern boundary, and a good slope into Pukenua Stream; lower ground to north, and higher to southern boundary. The bush was felled and burnt off last season, and area grassed in autumn. The soil is of good quality, 4 in. to 10 in. in depth, resting on papa formation. Totara and maire trees standing, and a few matai over 4 ft. in diameter. The section is fairly well watered by small streams and springs, with the Pukenua Stream available across the road. The elevation ranges from about 1,650 ft. to 1,950 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise whole area cleared and grassed.
Section 11 is situated on the Pukenua and Kaka Roads. The access is from Taihape, which is about 3¼ miles distant via Adamson’s Track Road, and 3 miles via Kaka Road; the former having 2 miles of dray-road and the balance of distance good pack-track, the latter having 1 mile of dray-road with 2 miles of good formed pack-track. The section comprises rather broken and steep country, with some flat towards eastern boundary (in centre), and good aspect in northern portion. The bush was felled and burnt off last season, and the grass-seed sown in autumn. Totara and maire trees standing, and some pines over 4 ft. through.
The soil is of good quality, 4 in. to 10 in. in depth, resting on papa formation. The section is fairly well watered by small streams and springs, with permanent water available across the road. The elevation ranges from about 1,690 ft. to 2,150 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise the whole area cleared and grassed, young grass coming up well.
Section 12 is situated on the Kaka Road. The access is from Taihape, which is about 4¼ miles distant via Adamson’s Track Road, and 2¾ miles by the Kaka Road; the former having 2 miles of dray-road and the balance formed horse-track, and the latter 1 mile of dray-road and the remainder formed horse-track. The section comprises rather steep and broken country in southern portion, but fine flat hill-tops in northern part, which is higher. The bush was felled and burnt off last season, and area sown with grass-seed in autumn. The soil is of very fair quality, from 4 in. to 9 in. in depth, resting on papa formation. There are a few totara and maire trees standing, and a few matai over 4 ft. in diameter. The section is poorly watered by small streams and springs. The elevation ranges from about 1,900 ft. to 2,180 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise the whole area cleared and carefully grassed, the young grass coming up well.
Section 13 is situated on the Kaka Road. The access is from Taihape, which is about 2 miles distant via Kaka Road, and 4¾ miles by Adamson’s Track Road; the former having 1 mile fit for dray traffic and balance of distance a formed 6 ft. horse-track, the latter has 2 miles of dray-road and 2¾ miles of formed 6 ft. horse-track. The section comprises some fine even country in centre and north end, with southern end rather steep, falling into Kaka Road. The bush was felled and burnt off last season, and the area sown with grass-seed in autumn. The soil is of good quality, 4 in. to 10 in. in depth, resting on papa formation. The totara and maire trees are left standing, and a few matai over 4 ft. in diameter. The section is poorly watered by small streams and springs. The elevation ranges from about 1,800 ft. to 2,200 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise the whole area cleared and carefully grassed, with the young grass coming up well.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned land will be offered for sale by public auction for cash at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, the 7th December, 1898.

The above section is situated in the Dannevirke Centennial Block, on the King’s Road. The access is from Rakau-nui, which is about eighteen miles distant—viz., two miles by the Alfredton-Weber Road; then for seven miles by a formed horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, and Wai-owaka Roads; the other nine miles by the Spur and other roads, which are being formed. The section comprises hilly land, with homestead-site on King’s Road. The soil is clay and sandstone, resting on a papa formation. The section is under English grass, on which manuka scrub has grown up. The section is not well watered. The elevation ranges from about 700 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise—144 acres in grass, at 7s. 6d., £54; 110 chains post-and-wire fence, at 10s., £55: total, £109.
Terms of Sale.—One-fifth of the purchase-money, together with the value of the improvements, to be paid on the fall of the hammer, and the balance, with Crown-grant fee, within thirty days thereafter; otherwise the part of the purchase-money paid by way of deposit shall be forfeited, and the contract for the sale of the land be null and void.
There are no restrictions or limitations imposed on the purchaser of this section other than above mentioned.
