Notice of Intention to change the Purpose of a Portion of a Reserve in the Taranaki Land District.

RANFURLY, Governor.

WHEREAS by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” it is, amongst other things, enacted that the Governor may declare his intention to make, change, exchange, or alter the dedication of any public reserve now or hereafter vested in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of the purposes named in Class II. of the Schedule to the said Act, whether the same be granted or not; if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to change the purpose of such reserve or any part thereof from the purpose or presumed purpose for which it was set apart to any other purpose, or if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to exchange any of the land comprised in such reserve for other land of equal value, to be dedicated to one or more purposes named in the said Class II., the Governor may, by notice gazetted, declare his intention to make such change, exchange, or dedication, as the case may be, and in such notice declare the manner and terms in which the same is intended to be so made:

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” aforesaid, declare my intention to change the specific purpose of the portion of the reserve described in the second column of the Schedule hereto from that named in the first column of the said Schedule to that named in the third column of the said Schedule respectively.

SCHEDULE.

Description and Purpose of Original Reserve. Portion which it is intended to change. Intended Purpose.
All that parcel of land in the Taranaki Land District, containing by admeasurement 3 acres, more or less, being Block No. XXXI., Town of Opunake. Permanently reserved for a telegraph-station on 10th May, 1871, New Zealand Gazette No. 26, of 5th May, 1871, page 208. All that parcel of land in the Taranaki Land District, containing by admeasurement 2 roods, more or less, being Sections Nos. 11 and 12, Block XXXI., Town of Opunake. Bounded towards the north-east by South Road; towards the south-east by Havelock Street; towards the south-west by Domett Street; and towards the north-west by Sections Nos. 10 and 9, Block XXXI. aforesaid. Site for police-station and buildings.

this twenty-third day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.

Regulation under “The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1894.”

RANFURLY, Governor.

PURSUANT to and in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon him by “The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1894,” and of all other powers him enabling in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand hereby repeals the regulation made on the sixteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven, for the purpose of prescribing the fees to be paid to the President and members of the Court of Arbitration and the Chairman and members of the Board of Conciliation, and in lieu thereof hereby makes the following regulation for the purpose aforesaid, and declares that such regulation shall come into force as from the first day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.

REGULATION.

The fees payable to the President and each member of the Court of Arbitration, and the Chairman and each member of the Board of Conciliation, shall be as follows:—

To the President and each member of the Court of Arbitration,—

For each day's absence from the town in which he resides, for the purpose of attending the sittings of the Court, including the day of departure, but not the day of return .. .. .. .. £2 2 0

To the Chairman and each member of the Board of Conciliation,—

For each day's sitting of the Board in the town in which he resides .. .. .. .. £1 1 0

Or, in cases where the sitting commences later than 5 o'clock in the afternoon, such less sum as the Minister of Labour deems reasonable, having regard to the circumstances of each case as it arises.

For each day's absence from the town in which he resides, for the purpose of attending the sittings of the Board, including the day of departure but not the day of return 1 10 0

In addition to the foregoing fees, the cost actually paid or incurred in respect of fare or passage by rail, vessel, or coach to and from home, and also in respect of other expenses actually paid or incurred on the day of return, will in each case be paid.

Altering the Name of the Town of Birmingham.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by sections two and three of “The Designation of Districts Act, 1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that the Governor in Council may, at the request or with the consent of the Council of any county, city, or borough, alter the geographical name or designation of any place or locality in the colony:

And whereas the Kiwitea County Council has requested that the present name of “Birmingham,” within the County of Kiwitea, be altered as hereinafter mentioned, and it appears expedient to comply with such request:

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that the Township of Birmingham, in the County of Kiwitea aforesaid, shall, on and after the fourth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, be called and known by the name of “Kimbolton,” and the name of the said Township of Birmingham is hereby altered accordingly.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this first day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.
