THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Kaiti Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

KAITI ROAD DISTRICT BOARD.

Result of a Poll taken upon a Proposal to borrow £2,000 in Terms of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886.”

I, GEORGE MATTHEWSON, Chairman of the Kaiti Road District Board, hereby notify that at a poll taken on Saturday, the 17th day of September, 1898, in terms of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and in pursuance of the provisions of “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” upon a proposal to borrow the sum of £2,000 for public works within the said district, as set forth in the proposal submitted to the ratepayers at a meeting held on Wednesday, 7th September, 1898, the following was the result:—

Number of ratepayers on the roll, 163, entitled to exercise 179 votes: Number of ratepayers who voted, and votes recorded—for the proposal, 109 ratepayers, who exercised 115 votes; against the proposal, 5 ratepayers, who exercised 5 votes.

As a majority in number of ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half of the votes which could be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I therefore declare the resolution in favour of the proposal to be carried.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Porangahau Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

PORANGAHAU ROAD BOARD.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

In accordance with “The Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” it is hereby notified that at a poll taken on the 17th September, 1898, in Porangahau, on the proposal to raise a loan of £3,000 to execute certain road- and bridge-works on the Porangahau–Wimbledon–Herbertville Road, the following was the result:—

Total number of ratepayers, 54, exercising 115 votes: Number of ratepayers voting in favour of the proposal, 37, exercising 73 votes; number of ratepayers voting against the proposal, none.

As a majority of ratepayers, exercising more than half of the votes, have voted in favour of the proposal, I hereby declare the said proposal to be duly carried.

THE following special order, made by the Manchester Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

MANCHESTER ROAD BOARD.

Copy of Special Order made by the Manchester Road Board.

THAT this Board, under the provisions of “The Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and under and by virtue of a warrant issued under the hand of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, dated the 23rd day of September, 1897, authorising the Rangitikei County Council to charge the Manchester Road Board with one-third share of cost of managing and maintaining the Onepuhi Bridge over the Rangitikei River at Onepuhi, borrow a further sum of £300 for the purpose of providing share of the cost of repairing the said bridge, in accordance with the above-mentioned warrant, and that a special rate of 1/160d. in the pound be hereby made upon the rateable value of the whole of the rateable property (Crown and Native land excepted) within the Manchester Road District, for the purpose of providing interest on the above loan of £300, to be borrowed under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886”; such rate to be annually recurring for twenty-six years, and payable at the Board’s office in equal half-yearly instalments on the 1st days of April and October in each year.

I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly made by the Manchester Road Board in accordance with the provisions of “The Roads Boards Act, 1882.”

Approving and Appointing a Kerosene Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by “The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1882,” I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned warehouse to be a warehouse for the reception of kerosene and other oils under bond, namely,—

Port of Dunedin.

Portion of an iron and wood building, roofed with iron, situate between Anderson’s Bay Road and the Otago Harbour, in the Municipality of South Dunedin, to be known as

THE UNIVERSAL KEROSENE BOND.

Notice to Mariners, No. 30 of 1898.

FRENCH PASS, COOK STRAIT.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 24th September, 1898.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners, No. 29 of 1898, issued by this department on the 5th instant, in which it was stated that it was intended to place a buoy off the end of the shoal at the eastern entrance to the French Pass, it is hereby notified that the matter has since been further considered by the department, and it has now been decided that it would not be expedient to place a buoy in the position indicated, owing to its close proximity to the Pass.

Caution.—To avoid this shoal vessels should pass within 2¼ cables of Collinet Point.

Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty charts Nos. 1096, 2054, 2616, and 2685; “New Zealand Pilot,” Chapter v., pages 222 and 223.
