Reserves in the Town of Levin for Lease.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 15th August, 1898.

IT is hereby notified, in terms of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” that written tenders will be received at this office up to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the 12th day of October, 1898, for the lease of the under-mentioned reserves. If any sections are unapplied-for on the above date they will remain open for selection at the upset rentals and for the terms stated.

SCHEDULE.
LEVIN TOWNSHIP RESERVES.

These reserves are conveniently situated in the Township of Levin, which is on the Wellington and Manawatu Railway-line, about fifty-nine miles distant from Wellington. The sections are all level, and, with the exception of Sections 11, Block III.; 2, Block IV.; 3 and 10, Block V.; 4, Block VI.; 7, Block XII.; 3 and 7, Block XIII.; and 6 and 13, Block XIV., which are still either in forest or scrub, are, generally speaking, open and in grass, or partially so. The soil is light, and rests on a shingle formation.

Terms of Lease.

1. Tenders must be accompanied by marked cheque or post-office order for six months’ rent at the rate offered, together with £1 1s. lease-fee.

2. There are no restrictions or limitations as to the number of sections which one person may lease, and no declaration is required. Residence and improvements are not compulsory. No compensation shall be claimed by the lessees, nor shall any be allowed by the Government, on account of any improvements effected by the lessee, nor for any other cause.

3. Possession will be given on the day of acceptance of tender.

4. The leases shall be for the term of years as specified above, but shall be subject to termination by twelve months’ notice in the event of the land being required by the Government.

5. The rent shall be payable half-yearly in advance.

6. The lands are to be let for grazing purposes, and the lessees will not be permitted to break up or crop any of the same without the written permission of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.

7. The lessee shall use all reasonable means to prevent the spread of gorse, broom, and sweetbriar on the land comprised in his lease.

Small Grazing-run, Orieri Survey District, Marlborough, for Lease on Application.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned small grazing-run will be open for lease upon application on and after Wednesday, the 28th September, 1898, at the half-yearly rental stated.

Very broken country, well watered; mixed bush on lower slopes, with birch on ridges; about sixteen miles from Havelock by water.

Rural Lands in the Marlborough Land District for Sale or Selection.

THE under-mentioned Crown lands will be opened for sale or selection in terms of section 136 of “The Land Act, 1892,” either for cash, for occupation with right of purchase, or for lease in perpetuity, at the option of the selector, on and after Wednesday, the 26th October, 1898. If more than one application be received for the same section on the same day, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day.

Front portion of this section is rich flat and terrace land, balance good easy limestone and sandstone ridges; about 7 acres grass and rushes, remainder fairly heavy bush which has mostly been killed by fires and woodcutters; permanent water; altitude, 500 ft. to 1,400 ft. About seven miles from Kaikoura by road.

A first-rate section, consisting of low spurs and flat terraces; soil rich and deep, except a strip along Long Creek, which is poor soil; about 16 acres along the front is open, covered with fern and grass, and rather stony; the bush is moderately heavy, the sawmillers have taken the best of it; well watered. About seven miles from Kaikoura by main road.

Good limestone land; soil of good quality; 35 acres open, covered with grass and tussock; remainder light mixed bush, with some rimu, matai, and totara; well watered; homestead-site; altitude, 450 ft. to 2,000 ft. Ten miles and a half from Kaikoura by road and river-bed.
