Small Grazing-run, Marlborough, open for Selection.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned small grazing-run will be open for selection on Wednesday, the 26th October, 1898.

If more than one application be received, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day, at 11 a.m.

The character of the land varies from first-class bush terraces and ridges to rocky faces and shingle-slides; about 1,000 acres open, of which about 350 acres are good tussock and grass land, and the remainder steep, rocky land of very little use. Of the bush portion 1,400 acres are of such a character that it would pay for clearing and grassing; the remainder is short scrub on steep faces. A good deal of the bush is dead and partly cleared, through the operations of the sawmill, the owner of which has also sown a good deal of grass-seed, which has taken very well. The run is well watered. Altitude, 450 ft. to 5,222 ft. Distance, about nine miles from Kaikoura.

The Mangaere Village is situate on the Ohura Road, a short distance from the Township of Strathmore, and about twenty-one miles and a half from Stratford Railway-station. Sections 32, 33, 34, and 35 are all in bush, the remainder are felled and grassed land, the small sections having a fall towards Mangaotuku Stream. The general character of the soil is good. It is proposed to erect a creamery on Section 32, which will be protected by valuation for improvements.
