IN accordance with a resolution of the Board it is hereby recommended that all registered chemists of the colony adopt the 1898 edition of the British Pharmacopoeia for use on and after the 1st day of January, 1899.

In the matter of “The Public Works Act, 1894”; and in the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”
NOTICE is hereby given that it is the intention of the Council of the Borough of Mornington, on behalf of the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the said borough, to take for the purpose of a certain public work, to wit, the erection of a town hall, all that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Otago, containing by admeasurement 22·9 poles, more or less, being Allotment 8 and part of Allotment 7, Block IV., on the map of the Township of Mornington. Bounded towards the north by Allotment 6 of the same block, 166·2 links; towards the east by McCrea Street, 126·4 links; towards the south by Mailer Street, 98·1 links, and part of Allotment 7, now part of Mailer Street, 60 links; and towards the west by the said part of Allotment 7, 37·8 links, and Allotment 11, Township of Richmond Hill, 49·6 links. And notice is hereby further given that a plan showing the lands required to be taken has been prepared, and a copy thereof deposited at the office of the Town Clerk of the Borough of Mornington, where it is open for inspection in terms of the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1894.”
All persons affected by the taking of the said land as aforesaid are hereby called upon to set forth in writing any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said work or the taking of the said land, and to send such writing within forty days from the first publication of this notice to the said Council of the Borough of Mornington.

UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF “THE PUBLIC WORKS ACT, 1894.”—THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF PALMERSTON NORTH.
In the matter of “The Public Works Act, 1894”; and in the matter of certain land to be taken for drainage purposes.
The land is taken for the purpose of widening and deepening, and otherwise improving, an old Government drain running through the under-mentioned sections, and known as Jamieson’s Cut.

TAKE notice that the plan of the above lands has been deposited at Mr. George Jamieson’s private residence, Awapuni, where it is open for inspection. All persons affected by the taking of the said lands having any well-grounded objections to the execution of the proposed works or the taking of the said lands as aforesaid are required to set forth in writing such objections, and to send such writing, within forty days from the 20th day of August, 1898, to the Town Clerk of the said Borough of Palmerston North, at the Borough Council Chambers, Palmerston North.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Thames (New Zealand) Exploring Syndicate (Limited) will, after the expiration of three months from the date hereof, cease to carry on business in the Colony of New Zealand.

SUBSCRIPTIONS.—The subscription is at the rate of 30s. per annum, PAYABLE IN ADVANCE. A less period than three months cannot be subscribed for.
Single copies of the Gazette, 6d. each.
Advertisements are charged at the rate of 6d. per line for the first insertion and 3d. per line for the second and any subsequent insertion.
Statements under the Mining Act are uniformly charged 23s.
All advertisements should be written on one side of the paper, and signatures, &c., should be written in a legible hand.
The number of insertions required must be written across the face of the advertisement.
The New Zealand Gazette is published on Thursday evening in each week, and notices for insertion must be received by the Government Printer before three o’clock of the day preceding publication.
Communications should be addressed to the Government Printer, Wellington, to whom post-office money-orders should be made payable. Cheques should be crossed “Public a/c,” and exchange added.
Postage- or duty-stamps cannot be received in payment from any place at which postal notes or post-office orders are issued.
Prepayment may be demanded in any case. In order to prevent delay in publication a sufficient remittance should accompany every advertisement. Any surplus will be returned with receipted account.
