Section 11, Pakihikura Village Settlement, is situated on a formed dray-road in the Pakihikura Village Settlement. The access to the settlement is from Hunter ville via the Vinegar Hill Bridge, the distance being about eleven miles by formed dray-road. The area comprises broken country with from 2 to 3 acres of flat land. The soil is of good quality, and rests on papa formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, rata, tawa, matai, &c., with the usual undergrowth.

Section 12, Pakihikura Village Settlement, is situated on the Pakihikura Valley Road, in the Pakihikura Village Settlement, Otamakapua Block. The access is from Hunter ville, which is about twelve miles distant via the Vinegar Hill Bridge, Livingston Township, and the Pakihikura Valley Road. There is a formed dray-road right to the section. There is a small flat on the south-west corner of the section, but most of the land is hilly. The soil is from 6 ft. to 8 ft. in depth and of good quality, resting on a papa formation. The forest, which is heavy throughout, is composed of rimu, matai, miro, rata, tawa, &c., and a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The land is watered by a small stream, which is dry in summer. The elevation ranges from about 1,000 ft. to 1,100 ft. above sea-level.

Section 13, Pakihikura Village Settlement, is situated on the Pakihikura Valley Road, in the Pakihikura Village Settlement, Otamakapua Block. The access is from Hunter ville, which is about twelve miles distant via the Vinegar Hill Bridge, Livingston Township, and the Pakihikura Valley Road. There is a formed dray-road right to the section. The area includes about 10 acres of flat land near the road, the rest being broken. The soil is from 6 ft. to 12 ft. in depth and is of good quality, resting on papa-and-shingle formation. The forest is heavy throughout, comprising rimu, matai, miro, kahikatea, tawa, rata, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is well watered by constantly running streams. The elevation ranges from about 1,000 ft. to 1,100 ft. above sea-level.

Sections 12, 13, 14, 26, and 27, Marshall Village Settlement, are situated on the Whare Road, the access being from Rangiwahia, which is about four miles distant via the Kimbolton and Whare Roads, which are formed for dray traffic the whole of the distance. The section is composed of open ploughable land, mostly flat. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa formation. There is no water on the land. The elevation ranges from 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Sections 16, 17, 28, 29, and 30, Marshall Village Settlement, are situated on Hammond Street, and have access from Rangiwahia, which is about four miles distant via the Kimbolton and Whare Roads, which are formed for dray traffic the whole of the distance. The section is all open and ploughable, and mostly flat. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa formation. The section is not watered by any stream. The elevation ranges from about 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Section 1, Karewarewa Village Settlement, is situated on the Auputa Road, the access being from Rangiwahia, which is about three miles and a half distant by the Mangawharariki and Auputa Roads, which are formed for dray traffic to within a quarter of a mile of the section; the rest of the distance is a formed bridle-track. The area, generally speaking, comprises hilly forest land. There is a small flat of a couple of acres near the road. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is heavy throughout, and comprises rimu, matai, rata, tawa, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is watered by a small stream, which is dry in summer. The elevation ranges from about 1,300 ft. above sea-level.

Section 47, Levin Village Settlement, is situated on a formed road, and adjoins the Levin Township lots. The area comprises flat land, with good soil resting on shingle formation. The land is all in grass. Water is supplied by a well on the section. The section is weighted with £42 7s. 6d. for improvements, comprising 10 acres grassed, £20; well, £1 17s. 6d.; garden and sheds, £3; and 35 chains of fencing, £17 10s.

Section 16, Pahiatua Village Settlement, is situated on the Cross Road, which is metalled, the access to the settlement being from Mangatainoka Railway-station, about a mile distant, where there are post-office, school, stores, &c. The area comprises flat land, with alluvial soil of medium quality, resting on gravel formation. The section is in grass, and is watered by a spring. The Pahiatua County Council has a claim for 17s. 4d. for rates due on this section. The section is also weighted with £65 for improvements, which have been neglected, comprising house, £40; 7 acres grassed, £17 10s.; and 27 chains of fencing, £7 10s.

Section 78, Pahiatua Village Settlement, is situated on the main road, about three-quarters of a mile from the Mangatainoka Railway-station and Post-office, and about half a mile from a school, store, &c. The area comprises flat land, with alluvial soil of medium quality resting on gravel formation. An area of about 3½ acres of the section is in grass, and the rest in cultivation. The section is weighted with £266 15s. for improvements, comprising house with six rooms, £185; outbuildings, &c., £20; 25 chains of fencing, £13 5s.; well and pump, £6; 3½ acres cleared and grassed, £17 10s.; 1 acre 1 rood 33 perches of garden, orchard, and cultivation, £25.

Section 82, Mangaramarama Village Settlement, is situated about two miles and a half by metalled road from Mangatainoka Railway-station, where there are school, post-office, store, &c. The area comprises level country, with alluvial soil of good quality resting on gravel formation. The section is in grass, and is well watered by a stream. The Pahiatua County Council claim £2 5s. for rates due on this section. The section is also weighted with £150 for improvements, comprising house, £35; cow-shed and outbuildings, £8; grassing, 20 acres, £45; 33 chains of fencing, £31; stumping, cultivation, fencing, &c., £10; logging up about 8 acres, £10; clearing creek, £9; drain and well, £2.

Section 156, Makuri Village Settlement, is situated in the Makuri Village Settlement, at the Township of Makuri. The area comprises undulating country, with good soil resting on limestone formation. The section has been cleared and burned, and is partly in grass. The section is weighted with £19 for improvements, comprising 7 acres partly grassed, £14; and 5 chains of fencing, £5.

Section 22, Rakaunui Village Settlement: This section is situated in the Rakaunui Village Settlement, about half a mile from the Alfredton-Weber Road by a cleared road, which gives the only access. The area comprises undulating country with about 3 acres of flat land, and a clayey soil of fair quality resting on papa formation. The forest is mixed, and contains rimu, rata, kahikatea, &c., with the usual undergrowth of tawa, supplejack, &c. The section is well watered by a creek.

SECOND SCHEDULE.

  1. The lands enumerated in the First Schedule are first-class lands, and are divided into village-homestead allotments, open for selection on lease in perpetuity under the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892” (hereinafter referred to as “the said Act”).

  2. The day on which the land shall be open for selection shall be Wednesday, the 19th day of October, 1898.

  3. The rental stated in the First Schedule shall be the price at which the land shall be open for selection.

  4. Applications for leases shall be made in manner as provided in Part I. of the said Act; and all such applications shall be made to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Wellington; and leases will be issued in accordance with the provisions of Part I. aforesaid.

  5. Each applicant shall state his or her residence, occupation, and condition in life (namely, whether married or single), and will be required to make the declaration prescribed in Schedule C of the said Act.

  6. Each applicant shall pay the first half-year's rent, together with the lease- and registration-fee, and the valuation for improvements (if any), immediately the application has been approved or declared successful at the ballot.

  7. All rents must be paid half-yearly, in advance, on the 1st days of January and July in each year, as provided in section 157 of the said Act; and the first half-year's rent is payable as before provided.

  8. No lessee shall apply for or hold more than one allotment, and such allotment shall be held for his or her sole use and benefit, and not for the use or benefit of any other person whomsoever. No married woman shall be eligible as a selector; but this provision shall not apply to any married woman who may become a transferee under a will or by virtue of an intestacy. Nothing herein contained shall be held to prevent any of the present lessees in the aforesaid village-homestead settlements, subject to the limitations of the said Act, from applying for and holding an additional allotment, provided such allotment adjoins the lessees' present holdings.

  9. Improvements and residence on the land comprised in each lease shall be as provided in Part III. of the said Act. The provisions of section 144, and all other provisions of the said Act with respect to substantial improvements, shall apply accordingly to lessees under these regulations. The provisions of section 141, and all other provisions of the said Act in respect of compulsory residence, shall apply accordingly to lessees under these regulations.

  10. No lessee shall subdivide, sublet, or transfer the land held by him under these regulations, except under and subject to the provisions of Part I. of the said Act.

  11. All the provisions of the said Act, so far as applicable, shall extend and apply to the lands affected by these regulations, and to the applications and leases to be made and issued thereunder, and generally to the interests created, and the persons whose rights, liabilities, or interests are thereby affected; and the mention of any particular provision of the said Act shall not be deemed to exclude any other provision of the said Act applicable to the particular case.
