for improvements (if any), immediately the application has been approved or declared successful at the ballot.

  1. All rents must be paid half-yearly, in advance, on the 1st days of January and July in each year, as provided in section 157 of the said Act; and the first half-year's rent is payable as before provided.

  2. Improvements and residence on the land comprised in each lease shall be as provided in Part III. of the said Act. The provisions of section 144, and all other provisions of the said Act with respect to substantial improvements, shall apply accordingly to lessees under these regulations. The provisions of section 141, and all other provisions of the said Act in respect of compulsory residence, shall apply accordingly to lessees under these regulations.

  3. No lessee shall subdivide, sublet, or transfer the land held by him under these regulations, except under and subject to the provisions of Part I. of the said Act.

  4. No lessee shall hold more than the limit stated in the First Schedule, including that already held, and all allotments shall be held for his or her sole use and benefit, and not for the use or benefit of any other person whomsoever. No married woman shall be eligible as a selector; but this provision shall not apply to any married woman who may become a transferee under a will or by virtue of an intestacy.

  5. All the provisions of the said Act, so far as applicable, shall extend and apply to the lands affected by these regulations, and to the applications and leases to be made and issued thereunder, and generally to the interests created, and the persons whose rights, liabilities, or interests are thereby affected; and the mention of any particular provision of the said Act shall not be deemed to exclude any other provision of the said Act applicable to the particular case.

Extending Time for Preparation of Burgess Roll, Borough of Palmerston.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this eighteenth day of July, 1898.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS it has been made to appear that certain things required to be done by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” in connection with the making and revision of the burgess lists or rolls of the Borough of Palmerston cannot be done by or within the time required by the said Act:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said Act, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby extend the time for the doing of the said things in connection with the burgess lists or rolls of the said Borough of Palmerston, and doth declare that the times for the doing of such several things shall be those which are specified in the Schedule hereunder.

SCHEDULE.

  1. Burgess list to be made out on or before the 18th July, 1898.

  2. Burgess and defaulters' list open for inspection, and delivery of objections thereto, until the 30th July, 1898.

  3. Inspection of lists of objections, to the 6th August, 1898.

  4. Sitting of Council to determine claims and objections, between the 8th August, 1898, and the 17th August, 1898.

  5. Burgess roll to come into force on the 1st September, 1898.

Extension of Time for Preparation of County Rolls, County of Waihemo.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this eighteenth day of July, 1898.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS it has been made to appear that owing to unavoidable circumstances the preparation of the rolls for the County of Waihemo, and the taking of certain steps consequent on such preparation, cannot be made and taken within the times limited by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and it is expedient to extend the said times respectively:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers conferred upon him by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order and declare that the several dates mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be the respective dates for taking the several steps set out in the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

  1. For preparing the rolls for ridings within the County of Waihemo: Until the 22nd July, 1898.

  2. Time for which such rolls shall be open for inspection: From the 27th July, 1898, to the 15th August, 1898.

  3. Time for appeals against the said rolls: Until the 31st August, 1898.

  4. Revision Courts may sit for hearing applications with reference to the said rolls, and adjourn: Until the 15th September, 1898.

  5. Time when the said rolls, having been duly corrected and signed, shall come into force: On the 16th September, 1898.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto was permanently set apart as a reserve for an Athenæum on the fourth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four:

And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, it is expedient to vest the said land in the Opunake Athenæum (Incorporated):

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the fourth section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” doth hereby declare that, from and after the day of the date hereof, the
