Formation of the 1st Battalion, Otago Rifle Volunteers.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, under paragraphs 211 and 213, Volunteer Regulations, 1895, of the formation of the under-mentioned Volunteer corps in the Otago District into an Infantry Battalion, under the designation of the “1st Battalion, Otago Rifle Volunteers,” with effect from the 20th day of May, 1898, and with headquarters at Dunedin:—

A Company, Dunedin City Guards Volunteers.
B Company, Bruce Rifle Volunteers.
C Company, East Taieri Rifle Volunteers.
D Company, North Dunedin Rifle Volunteers.
E Company, Highland Rifle Volunteers.
F Company, Kaitangata Rifle Volunteers.
G Company, Dunedin City Rifle Volunteers.
H Company, Dunedin Rifle Volunteers.

Special Order made by the Moa Road Board, County of Taranaki.

THE following special order, made by the Moa Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

MOA ROAD BOARD.

Notice is hereby given that this Board proposes to make the following special order:—

“(1) That to secure the repayment of a loan of £100, raised under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of forming and metalling the Kaipi Road from the Egmont Road upwards; (2) a special rate of 1 7/8d. in the pound to be made and levied over the following lands, which are hereby constituted the ‘Kaipi Road Special Rating District’—Sections 49, 51, 52, 56 (in two subdivisions), and part 61, Hua and Waiwakaiho. Such rate to be an annual-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and to be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each year.

WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.—CENTRAL SUBDIVISION.—PROPOSED LOAN OF £8,300.

Result of Poll taken on 4th June, 1898.

Number of ratepayers on roll, 88, representing 127 votes: Number of ratepayers voting in favour, 51; number of votes recorded in favour, 71; number of ratepayers voting against, 1; number of votes recorded against, 2; number of ratepayers not voting, 36; number of votes not recorded, 54. A majority in number of ratepayers, being entitled to a majority in number of the votes which can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, having voted in favour of the proposal, I therefore declare such proposal to be duly carried.

Notice of Vesting of Land in the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”

WHEREAS I, the undersigned, the Public Trustee, have for the purposes of “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894,” made due inquiries with respect to the parcels of land described in the Schedule hereunder written, and the owner thereof, and have, in respect of the said parcels of land, given the notices prescribed by section 4 of the said Act, and have in all respects complied with the provisions of the said section: And whereas I have not thereby ascertained who the owner is, and believe that such owner is not in the colony, nor has such owner established his title to the said land, as required by the said Act: I hereby give notice that the said lands are, under and by virtue of the said Act, vested in me, as the Public Trustee as aforesaid, as from the date of the publication hereof, and will be administered under the said Act, the assessed value of the said parcels of land being less than £100.

SCHEDULE.

All that parcel of land, containing 1 rood 27 perches, more or less, being Allotments 71 and 72, Block I., on the plan of the Township of Green Island, in the Provincial District of Otago; also

All that parcel of land, containing 35·9 perches, more or less, being Allotment 82, Block I., on the said plan of the Township of Green Island aforesaid.

Notice by the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”

To the owner or owners of a parcel of land, containing 37 perches, more or less, being part of Rural Section 266, Town of Lyttelton, in the Provincial District of Canterbury, having frontages to Brittan Terrace and Dudley Road. The Rural Section 266 was conveyed in 1851 to the late Archdeacon Benjamin Woolley Dudley; and this subdivision was probably conveyed in 1872 to a Mr. W. Carter (of whom nothing is known), and such conveyance (if a fact) is not registered. This subdivision was in the occupation of a Mrs. Manson, now deceased.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries, and has not thereby ascertained who the owner or owners of the above-described land is or are, and believes that such owner is, or owners are, not in the colony:

Now, this notice calls upon such owner or owners, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee his or their title to the land specified in this notice; and if such owner does or owners do not, within the time limited, so establish his or their title, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”
