Special Order made by the Eketahuna Road Board, County of Wairarapa North.

THE following special order, made by the Eketahuna Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following special order was made on Saturday, the 5th March, 1898, and confirmed on Saturday, the 7th May, 1898:—

“That, for the purpose of securing payment of £800 borrowed under this Board under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of metalling Pukohai Road, a special rate of 2¾d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value for the time being of the following properties: namely, Sections 12, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, Block I., and Sections 137, 138, 139, 140, 141, 142, 143, Block XIII., Mangahao; and Section 2, Block IV., Tararua. Such rate shall be an annually recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st January and the 1st July in each year.”

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply District.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Water-supply Act, 1891.”

WAIMAKARIRI - ASHLEY WATER-SUPPLY DISTRICT. — BROWN’S ROCK SUBDIVISION.

Poll for Loan of £3,000.

THE following is the result of the poll taken in the Brown’s Rock Subdivision of the district on Thursday, the 26th day of May, 1898:—

Number of ratepayers on roll, 311, representing £517,651: Number of votes recorded for the proposal, 198, representing £432,137; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 4, representing £11,619; informal votes, 3, representing £2,313; unrecorded votes, 106, representing £71,582.

As the number of ratepayers voting in favour of the proposal exceeds half of the number of ratepayers on the roll, and the number so voting represents more than three-fifths of the total rateable value of the rateable property, I declare the proposal carried.

I, Joseph Daniel Dickinson, of Summerhill, Cust, farmer, Chairman of the Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply Board, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by “The Water-supply Act, 1891,” “The Counties Act, 1886,” and amendments thereto, and “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” and amendments thereto, to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the ratepayers of the Brown’s Rock Subdivision of the Waimakariri-Ashley Water-supply District to the proposal to raise a special loan of £3,000 for the completion of the system of water-supply from the River Waimakariri, at Brown’s Rock, for the service of the lands within the Brown’s Rock Subdivision of the district, have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the proposal has been duly carried.

Further extending Time for furnishing Report of Police Commission.

Removal of a Name from the Commission of the Peace.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased, in terms of section 7 of “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882,” to direct the removal of the name of

of St. Kilda, Dunedin, from the Commission of the Peace; and it is hereby notified that such name has been removed accordingly, and that such removal will take effect on and from this 2nd day of June, 1898.

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and any amendment thereof, and also of “The Government Railways Act, 1894,” I, Thomas Thompson, acting for the Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 2nd day of June, 1898:—

PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.

PARCELS RATES.

Parcels consigned to the Wellington and Te Aro Railway-stations will be charged 3d. for each hundredweight or part of a hundredweight, in addition to the ordinary rates.
