Rural Lands in the Otago Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land for Settlements Act, 1894,” and the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on and after the seventeenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight; and that the said lands may be selected on lease in perpetuity, subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892”; and I do hereby declare that the rentals at which the said lands shall be leased shall be those mentioned in the said Schedule hereto opposite the description of such lands respectively.

Section 6: Open undulating land, well watered, with a north-easterly aspect; all ploughable with the exception of from 10 acres to 15 acres. Distance from Clinton, nine miles and a half; from Waipahi, eight miles and a quarter. Valuation for fencing, payable with application or immediately the result of the ballot is declared, £50 12s. An area of 110 acres of this section was sown in turnips last season, and produced an excellent crop. The turnips are now being fed off with sheep, which will leave the land in good heart for a crop this incoming season. Possession will be given on the 1st September, 1898.
Section 7: Open land, well grassed. A little over one-half agricultural land, the balance being very good for pasture, but rather high and steep for cultivation with profit; well watered by a running stream. Distance from Clinton, ten miles and a half; from Waipahi, nine miles and a quarter. Valuation for fencing, payable with application or immediately the result of the ballot is declared, £47 14s. 6d. The successful applicant for this section will also be liable to Mr. Thomas Chapman for half cost of the fence on boundary between Sections 7 and 16. An area of 70 acres of this section was sown in turnips last season, and produced an excellent crop. The turnips are now being fed off with sheep, which will leave the land in good heart for a crop this incoming season. Possession will be given on the 1st September, 1898.
Section 21: Mostly all agricultural land, consisting of long flat ridges and rolling downs; good heavy black soil; well watered and sheltered. Situated about ten miles from Clinton. Valuation for hut and fencing, payable with application or immediately the result of the ballot is declared, £62 3s. The successful applicant for this section will also be liable for half cost of the fences on the boundaries between Section 21 and Sections 12, 14, 45, and 50. An area of 57 acres of this section was sown in turnips last season, and produced an excellent crop. The turnips are now being fed off with sheep, which will leave the land in good heart for a crop this incoming season. Possession will be given on the 1st September, 1898.
Section 4: Open undulating land, terminating in abrupt spurs at the Pomahaka River; 76 chains frontage to the river; deep black soil, with sandy-clay subsoil; all ploughable with the exception of 50 acres; fairly well watered. Situated thirteen miles and a half from Clinton. Possession on day of sale.

PURSUANT to the provisions of the forty-ninth section of “The Public Trust Office Consolidation Act, 1894,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify that moneys or personal chattels payable or deliverable by the Public Trustee to the subjects of the German Empire resident therein may be paid or delivered to Herr Carl Seegner, Consul for the said Empire, resident at Auckland, in the Colony of New Zealand, who has been represented to me as the Chief Consular Officer of such Empire as regards the Colony of New Zealand for such purpose.
