N OTICE is hereby given that application is intended to be made at the next session of the General Assembly of New Zealand for leave to bring in a Bill to authorise the promoter and his assigns and licensees to use and hire for use any vehicle propelled by mechanical power which, unladen, is under three tons in weight, either used alone, or for the purpose of drawing one vehicle, and no more, of such weight that the combined weight of the two when unladen shall not exceed four tons; such vehicle being so constructed that no smoke or visible vapour is emitted therefrom, except from some temporary or accidental cause.

Copies of the Bill will be deposited at the office of the Examiner of Standing Orders on or before the commencement of the session, and may also be had upon application to the undersigned.

It is intended to amend the law in favour of the promoter so that he may use vehicles as before described, subject only to the enactments, rules, or regulations affecting vehicles generally, and to exempt such locomotives used or hired by the promoter or his licensees from the provisions of the Police Offences Acts, 1890 and 1894, and all other provisions regulating the use of traction-engines, but subject to the provisions of the said Bill.

The Bill also provides for the making of regulations by the Governor in Council regulating the keeping and use of petroleum and inflammable liquids or fuel intended to be used for such light locomotives, and exempting the same from the law at present regulating the same.

Dated this 18th day of May, 1898.
