Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Borough of Onslow.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Onslow, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

BOROUGH OF ONSLOW.

Onslow Borough Council,
Kaiwarra, 28th April, 1898.

To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.

SIR,—I have the honour to inform you that a poll was taken on the 27th instant on the proposal of the Council to borrow the sum of £5,000 as a special loan for carrying out certain improvements within the borough, with the following result : Burgesses on roll, 314 ; votes on roll, 360 : Burgesses voted for proposal, 188 ; votes for proposal, 211 ; votes against proposal, 5.

As more than half the number of burgesses voted for the proposal, and they represented more than half the number of votes which could be exercised, I have declared the resolution carried.

In accordance with clause 184 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” I forward herewith a statutory declaration to the effect that all proceedings required by the above Act have been duly taken.

I, John Holmes, Mayor of the Borough of Onslow, do solemnly and sincerely declare that, in reference to the proposal of the Borough Council to raise a special loan of £5,000 for certain improvements within the borough, all proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” have been taken in and towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses to the proposal, and that the resolution in favour of the proposal has been duly carried ; and I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE following is the result of a poll of ratepayers taken on the 20th April, 1898, on a proposal to raise a loan of £250, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for metalling the unmetalled portion of Sanson’s Line :—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 12, exercising 32 votes : Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal 9, exercising 23 votes ; number of ratepayers who voted against proposal, nil.

The number of voters and votes in favour of the proposal being more than half the total number exercisable, I hereby declare such proposal to be carried.
