It is further understood that the treatment of the most
favoured nation in the Regency of Tunis does not comprise
the treatment enjoyed by France.

Article II.

Cotton goods, the produce of the United Kingdom and of
British colonies and possessions, shall not be subject in the
Regency of Tunis to import duties higher than 5 per cent.
ad valorem at the port of discharge. They shall not be
charged with any other tax or impost whatsoever.

This provision shall remain in force until the 31st De-
cember, 1912, and, after that date, until the expiration of
six months from the day on which one of the contracting
parties shall have notified to the other its intention of
terminating its operation.

Article III.

The present agreement shall be ratified and the ratifica-
tions thereof shall be exchanged at Paris as soon as possible.
It shall come into force immediately after the exchange of
ratifications.

The existing Customs tariff on imports into the Regency
of Tunis shall, however, continue to be applied until the
31st December, 1897.

Decree of the 16th October, 1897.

WE, Ali-Pacha-Bey, Possessor of the Kingdom of Tunis,

In view of the declaration exchanged between the French
Government and the Governments of Sweden and Norway
of the 5th May, 1897, and the arrangements come to with
the British Government of the 31st December, 1889, and
18th September, 1897,

have decreed as follows:—

Article I.

The treaties and conventions of every kind relative to
Tunis concluded with the Swedish, Norwegian, and British
Governments prior to the declarations above cited are and
remain definitely abrogated.

Article II.

The treaties and conventions in force between France on
the one part, the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway
and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland on
the other part, are extended to Tunis, and shall be applicable
there without any other promulgation than that of this
decree.

The delay of fourteen days stipulated as regards Article
IX. of the Franco-English Extradition Convention of the
14th August, 1876, is extended to two months in Tunis.

Extending Time for furnishing Report of Kauri-gum Com-
mission.

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force
upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me
under “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and any amend-
ment thereof, and also of “The Government Railways Act,
1894,” I, Alfred Jerome Cadman, the Minister for Rail-
ways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale
of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand
Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to
come into force on and after the 7th day of March, 1898:—

PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.

LOCAL RATES AND REGULATIONS.

Hurunui—Bluff Section.

A charge of 6d. will be made for each crate or canvas bag
supplied by the Railway Department for the protection of
bicycles to be conveyed by rail; but when such crates or bags
are supplied they must not be removed from the railway
premises.

A limited number of crates and bags will be provided and
stationed at Christchurch only in the meantime.

The Railway Department reserves to itself the right to
decline any application for supply of bicycle crates or bags.

As witness my hand, this second day of March, one
thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.

Notice to Imprestees under “The Public Revenues Act, 1891.”

The Treasury,
Wellington, 23rd February, 1898.

EVERY officer holding advances of public money is
hereby required to pay to the Public Account, at
the nearest branch of the Bank of New Zealand, the un-
expended balance in his hand on or before Thursday, the
31st March proximo, and forthwith to transmit to the
Treasury at Wellington the bank-receipt for such repay-
ment, together with an account of his expenditure to the
same date, as required by clause 4 of the Treasury Regu-
lations.

As respects disbursements which officers may require to
make immediately after the close of the financial year,
requisitions for the amount required are to be made in
such time as to enable them to reach Wellington not later
than the 16th March, so that the requisite funds may be
placed at the disposal of the officer on the 1st April.

Notice of the Laying-off of Road through Rangitatau and
Rangitatau 1a and 1c Blocks, Nukumaru Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under
the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act,
1894,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was,
on the 20th of April, 1897, duly taken and laid off through
the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority
of the Governor of the said colony, by a warrant dated the
15th January, 1895.
