  • The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the
    Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been
allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took
place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 374, against 377 in September, a decrease of 3. The deaths in
October were 156, an increase of 2 on the number in September. Of the total deaths, males contributed 87, females 69.
Twenty-nine of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 18-59 per cent. of the whole number; 23 of these
were under 1 year of age. There were 32 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: five men, 69, 73, 76, 77, 82, died
at Auckland; three men, 70, 72, 74, and one woman, 72, at Wellington; five men, 69, 71, 75, 76, 83, and seven women, 65,
66, 67, 71, 78, 80, 83, at Christchurch; and eight men, 65 (two), 66, 67 (two), 73, 79, 86, and three women, 65 (two), 68,
at Dunedin.
