  1. Any three of the said Board shall form a quorum. Any meeting may be adjourned from time to time.

  2. The members of the Board shall, at their first meeting, and thereafter at an annual meeting to be held on the first Monday in February in every succeeding year thereafter, elect one of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the discussion, and shall have an original as well as a casting vote. The Chairman shall hold office until the election of his successor.

  3. If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the time appointed for holding the same, the members present shall choose some one of their number to be chairman of such meeting.

  4. If, by resignation, death, or incapacity, or otherwise, the office of Chairman shall be or become vacant, the members may at any monthly or special meeting appoint a Chairman.

  5. All questions shall be determined by the majority of votes of the members of the Board present at a meeting.

SCHEDULE.

All that parcel of land in the Rangiora Survey District, Canterbury Land District, being Reserve No. 132, containing 10 acres, more or less. Bounded northward by Section No. 2673; eastward by Section No. 1623; southward by Section No. 1197; and westward by a road-line. Also all those two parcels of land in the same survey district, being Reserve No. 1563, containing together 85 acres, more or less—viz., No. 1, bounded southward by Section No. 4758, westward by Sections Nos. 1623 and 1197, and northward and eastward by road-lines; No. 2, bounded southward by Reserve No. 142, north-eastward by Sections Nos. 3025 and 12315, and northward, westward, and south-eastward by road-lines.

Prohibiting the Introduction of Stock from Java.—Notice No. 499.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this first day of November, 1897.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS it has been made to appear to the satisfaction of the Governor in Council that there is a danger of the disease known as “rinderpest” being introduced into the Colony of New Zealand from Java: And whereas it is expedient to provide against the same:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Stock Act, 1893,” and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby make the following regulation, viz.:

REGULATION.

The introduction into the Colony of New Zealand from Java and adjacent islands of all stock as defined in the first section of the Schedule hereto, and the carcases of such stock and any portion thereof, and also the introduction of the several articles, substances, and things enumerated in such Schedule, or other articles which shall have been brought into contact with such stock, or with which they or any of them have been in contact, is hereby absolutely prohibited.

SCHEDULE.

Prohibited Stock.

  1. Horses (including asses or mules), cattle, sheep, dogs, swine, goats, deer, llamas, antelopes, buffaloes, and other ruminants.

Prohibited Articles, &c.

  1. All kinds of meat, hides, skins, bones, animal manures, horns, hoofs, hair, and wool.

  2. All kinds of fodder (including hay, straw, litter, grass, green crops, grain, corn), and anything commonly with, for, or about stock.

  3. All kinds of fittings, which include pens, stalls, or any article or material used for penning or confining stock, or which has in any way been brought into contact with stock.

Fixing the Date for the Collection of the Returns under “The Agricultural and Pastoral Statistics Act, 1895.”—Notice No. 500.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this first day of November, 1897.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Agricultural and Pastoral Statistics Act, 1895” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting with the consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order and direct that the account described in section two of the said Act shall be taken on the fifteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven, and continue to be taken from day to day until the eighteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven; and doth hereby declare that this Order in Council shall take effect on and after the fifteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven.

Increasing the Holding-area of Land to Settlers in the Horowhenua Village-homestead Settlement, Wellington.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this first day of November, 1897.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS by an Order in Council issued on the seventh day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four, under the authority of section one hundred and sixty-nine of “The Land Act, 1892,” fixing the terms and conditions upon which allotments in the Horowhenua Village-homestead Settlement should be disposed of, it was provided that no lessee would be allowed to hold more than one allotment:

And whereas it is expedient to allow one person to hold more than one allotment, provided that the total area acquired does not exceed a total of fifty acres, in the said Horowhenua Village-homestead Settlement:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony of New Zealand, doth hereby amend the Order in Council aforesaid so far as it affects the areas in which the land in the Horowhenua Village-homestead Settlement shall be held, and doth declare that on and after the date hereof any settler residing in the Horowhenua Village-homestead Settlement aforesaid may acquire by transfer or otherwise and hold more than one allotment, provided that the total area does not exceed fifty acres in extent.

PURSUANT to the authority conferred upon me by the eighth section of “The Justices of the Peace Act Amendment Act, 1888,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that

WILLIAM HARRISON,

being a person holding the office of Postmaster, under “The Post Office Act, 1881,” at Mangapai, is authorised to take and receive statutory declarations under the two hundred and thirty-fourth section of “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

As witness my hand, this first day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven.
