Rural Lands in Wellington District open for Sale or Selection.
District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, 21st August, 1897.
THE under-mentioned Crown lands will be open for sale or selection, in terms of section 136 of “The Land Act, 1892,” either for cash, for occupation with right of purchase, or for lease in perpetuity, at the option of the selector, on and after Wednesday, the 13th October, 1897.
If more than one application be received for the same section on the same day, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day, at 11 a.m.

Section 11, Block IV., Tararua, is situated in the Kakariki Block, and comprises fairly level and easy-sloping land along its road-frontage, but getting more hilly and broken towards the back. The soil is fair, on a shingle and papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing rimu, kahikatea, rata, &c., the undergrowth being of supplejack, lawyer, &c. The section is distant about four miles from Hukanui Railway-station, from which place it is approached by a cleared and partly-formed road. At Hukanui there is a store, school, post-office, &c.
Section 17, Block IV., Tararua, is situated in the Kakariki Block, on the West Road, and comprises hilly and broken land. The soil is fair, on a papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing rimu, kahikatea, rata, &c., the undergrowth being of supplejack, lawyer, &c. The section is distant about five miles from Hukanui Railway-station. There is a cleared road to within one mile of the section.
Section 19, Block I., Mangaone, is situated in the Kakariki Block, on the Kakariki Road, and is flat, with a good position and road-frontage. The soil is fair, on a shingle formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing rimu, kahikatea, &c., the undergrowth being supplejack, lawyer, ground-fern, &c. The section is distant about two miles from Hukanui Railway-station, from which place it is approached by a cleared and partially-formed road.

Woodville Block.

This section is situated in the Woodville Block, on the Alfredton–Weber Road, and comprises high undulating land. The soil is fair, on a papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing rimu, tawa, rata, kahikatea, &c., the undergrowth being rangiora, supplejack, &c. The section is distant about twenty-five miles from Alfredton by a formed dray-road. It is about a mile from the junction of the Alfredton–Weber Road with the Makuri–Aohanga Road, and is at the junction of the first-named road with the Huia Road.

Section 7, Block IV., Puketoi, is situated in the Christchurch Block, on the Makuri–Aohanga Road, and comprises flat and undulating land, the frontage to the road being low, undulating, and well watered. The soil is fair on a papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing rimu, kahikatea, a few totara, &c., the undergrowth being rangiora, mahoe, supplejack, &c. The section is distant about one mile and a half from the main road by the Makuri–Aohanga Road, which is bridged and open for horse traffic, and by a 6 ft. bridle-track. The section is also distant about ten miles and a half from Makuri Township, six miles of which distance is a formed and partly-metalled dray-road, and the remainder a 6 ft. bridle-track.
Section 4, Block IV., Puketoi, is situated in the Christchurch Block, on the Makuri-Aohanga Road, and comprises rough and broken land, well watered. The soil is fair, on a sandstone and papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing rata, rimu, kahikatea, tawa, &c., the undergrowth being supplejack, &c. The section is distant about three miles from the main road (Alfredton–Weber), which is a formed dray-road, by the Makuri–Aohanga Road, which is bridged and open for horse traffic, and by a 6 ft. bridle-road. The section is also distant about nine miles from Makuri Township, six miles of which distance is a formed and partly-metalled dray-road, and the remainder a 6 ft. bridle-track.
Section 8, Block IV., Puketoi, is also situated in the Christchurch Block, on the main road (Alfredton–Weber), which is a formed dray-road, and, generally speaking, comprises undulating land. The soil is fair, on a papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing rimu, rata, kahikatea, &c., the undergrowth being rangiora, supplejack, &c. The section is distant about two miles from Rakaunui Village Settlement. There are 8 acres cleared and in grass, together with a small whare on the section.

The right to take timber from these sections is reserved by the Crown up to 31st December, 1897.
Section 6, Block V., is situated in the Pahiatua No. I. Block, on the Waihi Road, and comprises low flat spurs on the road-frontage, rising steeply to the back line. It is watered by permanent streams. The soil is fair, on a sandstone formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing tawa, rimu, matai, totara, &c. The undergrowth is very open, and consists of rangiora, supplejack, &c. The section is distant about twenty miles from Makuri, five miles being dray-road, thirteen miles bridle-track, and two miles pack-track.
Section 32, Block V., Mt. Cerberus, is situated in the Pahiatua No. I. Block, on the Alfredton–Weber Road, and comprises comparatively flat or sloping land, easy of access from any point. It is well watered by a permanent stream. The soil is good, on a papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing tawa, rimu, totara, &c., with an open undergrowth of rangiora, supplejack, &c. The section is distant about three miles from Pongaroa by a formed dray-road.
