WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT—continued.

Section 33, Block VII., Umutoi, is situated in the Pohangina Block, on the Table Flat Road, and consists of undulating land, with a small flat, well watered. The soil is good, on a papa and shingle formation, and is covered with forest composed of rimu, matai, &c., with the usual undergrowth. The section is distant about seven miles from Apiti Township, from which place there is a metalled dray-road for three miles, and a formed dray-road the remainder of the distance.

Section 39, Block VII., Umutoi, is situated in the Pohangina Block, on the Umutoi Road, and consists of undulating land, with about 50 acres of flat. The soil is good, on a shingle and papa formation, and is covered with forest composed of rimu, matai, miro, rata, &c., with the usual undergrowth. It is well watered. From the Township of Apiti it is distant about ten miles, there being a formed dray-road for about seven miles, a bridle-track for one mile, and the remaining distance is a walking-track only.

Section 32, Block IV., Apiti, is situated in the Marton No. I. Block, and consists of broken land, the soil being good, on a papa formation, and covered with forest composed of rimu, matai, hinau, miro, &c., with the usual undergrowth. The land is well watered. Its distance from Rangiwahia is about six miles and a half, from which place there is a dray-road for three miles, a bridle-track for two miles and a half, and a walking-track for the remainder of the distance.

Section 33, Block IV., Apiti, is situated in the Marton No. I. Block, and consists of broken land with a small flat, the soil being good, on a papa formation, and well watered. It is covered with forest composed of rimu, miro, matai, and birch, with the usual undergrowth. The distance from Rangiwahia is about six miles, from which place there is a dray-road for three miles, and a bridle-track for the remainder of the distance. An area of 9 acres of the section has been felled and grassed.

Section 8, Block I., Umutoi, is situated in the Marton No. II. Block, and contains from 40 to 50 acres of flat land, the rest being undulating. The soil is good, on a papa and sandstone formation, and well watered by running streams. The land is covered with forest composed of rimu, matai, &c., and birch on the ridges, with the usual undergrowth. Its distance from Rangiwahia is about five miles, two miles of which is a dray-road, and the remainder a formed bridle-track.

Section 8, Block XVI., Hautapu, is situated in the Marton No. II. Block, and consists of undulating and broken land, covered with forest composed of rimu, rata, miro, &c., with the usual undergrowth. The soil is good, on a papa and sandstone formation, and well watered. The section is about five miles from Rangiwahia, from which place there is a dray-road for three miles of the distance, and a bridle-track the rest of the way.

Section 6, Block XIII., Ruahine, is also situated in the Marton No. II. Block, and consists of broken land, covered with forest composed of rimu, miro, &c., with birch on the ridges, and the usual undergrowth. The soil is fair, on a papa formation, and well watered. The section is about six miles and a half from Rangiwahia—by a dray-road for three miles, a bridle-track for two miles, and a surveyed road for the remainder of the distance.

Section 7, Block XIII., Ruahine, is situated in the Marton No. II. Block, and consists of land of a broken character, covered with forest composed of rimu, miro, matai, &c., with the usual undergrowth. The soil is good, on a papa formation. The section is about six miles from Rangiwahia, from which it is approached by three miles of dray-road, two miles of bridle-track, and one mile of road which is surveyed only.

Section 4, Block IX., Ruahine, is situated in the Marton No. II. Block, on the Pourangaki River, and consists of broken country, with little flat land, covered with forest composed of rimu, miro, matai, &c., with birch on the ridges, and the usual undergrowth. The soil is good, on a papa formation, and well watered. The distance from Rangiwahia is about ten miles, from which place there is a dray-road for three miles, and a bridle-track the remaining seven miles.

Section 5, Block IX., Ruahine, is situated in the Marton No. II. Block, on the Pourangaki River, and consists of broken land, covered with forest composed of miro, rimu, matai, &c., with birch on the ridges, and the usual undergrowth. The soil is good, on a papa formation, and well watered. It is distant about eleven miles from Rangiwahia—by three miles of dray-road, seven miles of bridle-track, and one mile of walking-track; but the eventual outlet for this section will probably be to Mangaweka, from which it is distant about fourteen miles.

This section is situated in the Onslow Farm-homestead Block, on the lower slopes of the Ruahine Range, and comprises fair but rough land, well watered. The soil is fair, on a papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing birch, kaiwaka, rimu, &c., the undergrowth being of the ordinary description. The section is distant about eight miles from Rangiwahia, from which place it is approached for two miles by a dray-road, three miles and a half by bridle-track, and two miles and a half rough walking-track.
