Value of output, wages, &c., not shown where the number of establishments is so small that particulars might be identified. Value of manufacture at Government Railway-workshops and Government Printing Office not included. † For full particulars respecting these industries, see special tables, post.

NOTE.—Two or more distinct industries were carried on at some establishments. In such cases particulars of power, hands and plant employed, and wages paid, unless stated separately for each branch of industry, have been treated as belonging to the most important work.

THE following information is supplied as to quantities of manufactures or productions in case of certain industries for which no special tables have been considered necessary:—

Confectionery-works: 462 tons of confectionery.
Bone-mills: 2,253 tons bone-dust and root-manure, 35 tons tallow, 870 gallons oil.
Sausage-skin factories: 3,215 cwt. sausage-skins.
Chaff-cutting establishments: 27,924 tons chaff cut, also grain threshed and crushed and hay baled.
Paper-mills and paper-bag factories: 1,398 tons paper, 300 tons bags, and 1,125,000 bags.
Lime- and cement-works: 6,581 tons lime, 1,320 tons cement.
Heel- and toe-plate works: 5,487 gross of plates.
Spouting- and ridging-works: 457,308ft. of spouting and ridging, 130 tons lead-headed nails, 20 galvanised-iron tanks, 690 tons galvanised iron, 2,000ft. galvanised gutters.
Stove and range factories: 4,358 ranges, 555 ovens, 125 stoves, 98 coppers, and 300 grates.
Musical-instrument factories: 34 pianos, 7 organs, 10 harmoniums.
Basket and perambulator factories: 5,726 baskets, 3,403 perambulators and go-carts, 36 coal-baskets, 1,100 chairs and sundries.
Brush and broom factories: 251,056 brushes, 87,000 brooms, 3,588 bellows.
Venetian-blind works: 8,143 sets of blinds.
Mattress factories: 2,316 mattresses.
Chemical works: 1,993 tons acids, 8,000 tons manure, 41 tons rabbit and bird poison, £3,600 worth linseed-oil cake, £10,800 worth perfumery.
Hæmatite-paint works: 107 tons and 500 gallons hæmatite paint.
Sheep-dip works: 31,320 gallons sheep-dip and 20,000 gallons lubricating-oil.
Hat and cap factories: 6,860 dozen hats and caps.
