This section is situated in the Pahiatua No. III. Block, on the Alfredton-Weber Road, and consists of easy slopes and gullies with permanent water. The soil is good, on a sandstone and papa formation, covered with light forest of a mixed character, containing tawa, rimu, totara, &c., the undergrowth being rangiora, manuka, &c. The section is eight miles distant from Pongaroa, and seven miles from Weber by a dray-road. Eight acres of scrub, chiefly manuka, have been felled, but not burned or sown. The fence-line between Sections 2 and 3 has been felled and burned half a chain on each side.

Section 10, Block I., Aohanga, is situated on the Mangatiti Road, within a few chains of the Alfredton-Weber dray-road, twenty miles from Alfredton and eight miles and a half from Pongaroa. The land consists of low spurs and flats in the front, and rises gradually to the back line. The soil is good, on a papa formation, is timbered with rimu, tawa, &c., with the usual undergrowth, and is well watered.

Section 7, Block I., Aohanga, is situated on the Mangatiti Road, and consists of land rising from the frontage to the back line, which is rather broken in places. It is watered by small permanent streams. The soil is fairly good, on a papa formation, and is covered with forest of a mixed character, containing tawa, rimu, &c., with an undergrowth of rangiora, supplejack, &c. The section is distant a little over a mile from the Alfredton-Weber dray-road; it can also be approached from Makuri by five miles of dray-road, six miles of bridle-track, and two miles of road which is surveyed only.

Section 11, Block I., Aohanga, is situated on the Alfredton-Weber dray-road, twenty-five miles from Alfredton, and seven miles and a half from Pongaroa. The land consists of flats of about 20 acres along the road, rising gradually towards the back. Water is scarce, but can be obtained by digging, or blocking the natural watercourses. The soil is good, on a papa formation, and is covered with forest consisting of tawa and kahikatea, with the usual undergrowth.

Section 12, Block IV., Puketoi, is situated on the Mangatiti Road, within two miles of the Alfredton-Weber dray-road. It can also be reached from Makuri by five miles of dray-road, six miles of bridle-track, and two miles of road which is surveyed only. The road-frontage is poor, the land sloping down sharply into the Mangatiti Stream, along which there are small flats on the west bank. The balance of the section is rough and broken, rising to high spurs at the back. The soil is good, on a papa formation, is well watered, and covered with forest consisting chiefly of rimu and tawa.

Section 7, Block XV., Makuri, is situated on the Mangatiti Road, twelve miles and a half from Makuri, five miles of the distance being dray-road, six miles bridle-track, and one mile and a half surveyed road. The road-frontage is poor, the land sloping down sharply into the Mangatiti Stream. There is a small flat at the east end of the south boundary suitable for a homestead-site. The remainder of the section is somewhat broken, and faces the south-east. The soil is good, on a papa formation, is well watered, and timbered chiefly with tawa and rimu, with the usual undergrowth.

Masterton Reform Block.

This section lies on the foothills of the Puketoi Range, and consists of low spurs nearly flat. Access is gained from Makuri by dray-road for five miles, and bridle-track for the remaining seven miles. The soil is fair, on a papa formation, watered by small streams, and timbered with rimu and tawa, with the usual undergrowth.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Mekalickstone Block.

This section is weighted with £14 8s. for improvements.

The above section is situated in the Mekalickstone Farm-homestead Block, on the Waikereru Road, and consists of undulating and broken land. The soil is poor, on a broken formation, covered chiefly with large manuka, and an undergrowth of fern, whitewood, &c. The section is distant about nineteen miles from Makuri, six miles being dray-road, and thirteen miles horse-road and track. Eight acres have been felled, burned, and grassed, and there is easy access to the section from the road-frontage, which has been felled.

Section 10, Block IV., Umutoi, is situated about nine miles from Apiti, three miles of the distance being a dray-road, four miles a river-bed track, and the remaining two miles a bridle-track. There are about 15 acres of level land on the section. The soil is peaty, on a papa formation. It is well watered, and covered with mixed timber, consisting of rimu, matai, birch, &c., with the usual underscrub.

Sections 8 and 13, Block IV., Umutoi, are situated about seven miles from Apiti Township, three miles of the distance being a dray-road, one mile a bridle-track, and three miles a track on the Oroua River bed. The whole of the land is rough and broken, but the soil is fair, on a papa formation, and well watered. The bush consists of rimu, matai, birch, &c.

This section is situated about six miles and a half from Apiti Township, a dray-road being formed past the frontage. The land is of good quality, though somewhat stony in places, and is covered with heavy mixed bush with usual undergrowth. The soil is fair, on a papa formation, and well watered. There are about 100 acres of flat land on the section.
