THE following special order, made by the Parihaka Road
Board, is published in accordance with the provisions
of "The Road Boards Act, 1882."

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Parihaka Road Board, County of Taranaki.

By-laws regulating Traffic on District Roads in the Parihaka Road Board District, County of Taranaki.

In pursuance of and in exercise of the powers conferred by
"The Road Boards Act, 1882," "The Public Works Act,
1894," and "The Public Works and Government Railways
Acts Amendment Act, 1895," the Parihaka Road Board
hereby ordains by special order a by-law as follows, that is
to say:—

  1. The use of bullocks as traction animals, except one
    pair, on the said roads is prohibited for the period from 1st
    May to 1st November in each year.

  2. The haulage or transportation on the said roads of any
    engine or machine coming under the definition of "heavy
    traffic" within the meaning of clause (a) of subsection (1) of
    section 130 of "The Public Works Act, 1894," during the
    months of May, June, July, August, and September in any
    year shall cease.

  3. The width of tires of all vehicles upon the said roads,
    whether plying for hire or not, shall bear the following pro-
    portion to the number of animals employed to draw the
    same, that is to say:—

  1. If any person shall commit a breach of any of the fore-
    going by-laws, he shall be liable, upon conviction for such
    breach, to a penalty of £5: Provided that the Court before
    which proceedings may be taken in respect of such breach
    may, if it thinks fit, impose such lower penalty as it may
    think adequate to the particular case.

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly
made in accordance with "The Road Boards Act, 1882," at
an ordinary meeting of the Parihaka Road Board held on
Monday, December 21st, 1896, and confirmed at an ordinary
meeting held on Monday, February 15th, 1897.

NOTICE TO MARINERS.

Lighthouse, Point Perpendicular.

It is hereby notified for general information that a light-
house tower is being erected on Point Perpendicular, the
northern headland of Jervis Bay, in substitution of the light
near Cape St. George, which is in a faulty position.

The new light will be of the group flashing character, in
place of the coloured light at present exhibited.
