recoverable in the same manner as the rents or sums due to
the company for gas ; and such meters and fittings shall not
be subject to distress for rent of the premises where the
same may be used, nor be taken in execution under any
process or proceeding of a Court of law or equity, or in
bankruptcy, against the person in whose possession the
same may be.

  1. That the clerk, engineer, or other officer duly appointed
    for the purpose by the company may at all reasonable
    times enter any building or place lighted with gas supplied
    by the company in order to inspect the meters, fittings, and
    works for regulating the supply of gas, and for the purpose
    of ascertaining the quantity of gas consumed or supplied ;
    and if any person hinders such officer as aforesaid from
    entering and making such inspection as aforesaid at any
    reasonable time he shall for such offence forfeit to the said
    company a sum not exceeding five pounds.

  2. That, if any person supplied with gas neglect to pay the
    rent due for the same to the company, the company may
    stop the gas from entering the premises of such person by
    cutting off the service-pipe or by such means as the company
    shall think fit, and recover the rent due from such person,
    together with the expense of cutting off the gas, and the cost
    of recovering the rent, by action in any Court of law of com-
    petent jurisdiction.

  3. That, in all cases in which the company are authorised
    to cut off and take away the supply of gas from any house,
    building, or premises under the provisions of this Act, the
    company, their agents or workmen, after giving forty-eight
    hours' previous notice in writing to the occupier, or, if no
    occupier, then after leaving such notice on any portion of
    the premises, may enter into such house, building, or pre-
    mises between the hours of 9 in the forenoon and 4 in
    the afternoon, and remove and carry away any pipe, meter,
    fitting, or other works the property of the company.

  4. When any consumer leaves the premises where gas has
    been supplied to him without paying to the company the
    gas-rent due from him, the company shall be entitled to re-
    quire from the next tenant payment of the arrears accruing
    since the meter shall have been last taken by the company,
    if such next tenant shall consume any gas without having
    first given to the company twenty-four hours' notice of his
    intention to do so.

  5. Every person supplied with gas by the company who
    wilfully suffers any pipe, meter, or other gas-fitting to be
    out of repair, so that the gas is wasted, shall for every such
    offence forfeit to the company any sum not exceeding five
    pounds over and above the loss which the company sustained
    by such waste.

  6. The company may make by-laws or regulations, pro-
    vided the same shall not be repugnant to this Act or to
    "The Municipal Corporation Act, 1886," or to any by-law
    or regulation that may now or hereafter be made there-
    under, or to any Act relating to County Councils or Harbour
    Boards, or to any by-law or regulation which may now or
    hereafter be made thereunder respectively, and impose any
    penalty not exceeding five pounds for the breach of any by-
    law or regulation of the company.

  7. The limits within which such gasworks are intended
    to be made extend to and include all lands lying within a
    radius of ten miles from the north-east corner of Section
    No. 197 on the plan of the Native Reserve in the Town of
    Greymouth.

  8. Such gasworks as aforesaid are intended to be made
    and maintained in and through the Borough of Greymouth
    and the County of Grey and any land which has or which
    may be reclaimed from the Grey River for making or
    improving the town and harbour of Greymouth.

  9. The works for the manufacture of gas are all those
    buildings and premises already erected on all that piece of
    land situate in and forming part of the Native Reserve in the
    Town of Greymouth, commonly known as the Greymouth
    Gasworks, being the sections numbered 197 and 198 on the
    map of the said Town of Greymouth, and situate in and front-
    ing upon Chapel Street West in the said town.

  10. It is not intended to apply for powers to remove the
    works for the manufacture of gas from the land aforesaid.

  11. That the company may provide a sinking fund not
    exceeding £2 per centum per annum on the cost of the gas-
    works and fixed plant and materials, and the money set
    aside for such fund may be applied for extension of works,
    but shall not be deemed to be profits within the meaning of
    the Act.

  12. Copies of the proposed Bill will be deposited in the
    office of Examiner of Standing Orders on Private Bills on or
    before the commencement of the next session of the General
    Assembly of New Zealand.

In the matter of "The Companies Act, 1882," and in the
matter of the Lyttelton and Peninsula Steamship Com-
pany (Limited).

NOTICE is hereby given that at an extraordinary general
meeting of the shareholders of the above-named
company, held on the 26th day of July, 1897, at the offices
of the said company, in the City of Christchurch, the follow-
ing special resolutions were passed unanimously, namely:—

  1. "That the Lyttelton and Peninsula Steamship Com-
    pany (Limited) be wound up voluntarily under and in pur-
    suance of subsection 2 of section 189 of the Companies
    Act (New Zealand), 1882."

  2. "That Robert Pitcaithly be appointed Liquidator for
    the purpose of winding up the affairs of the Lyttelton and
    Peninsula Steamship Company (Limited) and distributing
    the property."

And that at an extraordinary general meeting of the share-
holders of the said company held on the 16th day of August,
1897, at the offices of the said company aforesaid, the said
special resolutions were unanimously confirmed.
