These sections are situated in a settled district, and are distant from Hunterville, on a formed dray-road, about twelve miles; from Feilding, by a metalled coach-road via West Waitapu, about twenty miles; and from Waituna West Post- and Telegraph-office and school about three miles. The land, although broken, has a good soil on a gravel and papa formation, covered with timber consisting chiefly of rimu, rata, hinau, and the usual undergrowth. An area of 2½ acres has been felled, but not sown with grass-seed. The section is well watered.

Rewa Village Settlement.

This section is situated in a thriving district, and is distant from Hunterville about ten miles by a formed dray-road, and from Feilding, by a formed and mostly metalled coach-road, about twenty miles. The land is level, with good soil on a gravel formation, and is heavily timbered, chiefly with rimu, matai, kahikatea, and the usual undergrowth. The section is watered by a running stream.

RANGITIKEI COUNTY.

Mangaweka Village Settlement.

This section is situated on the main road at Mangaweka. It is level, has a soil on a gravel formation, and is watered by a running stream. The bush is all felled, but, owing to the burn not being good, the land is poorly grassed.

Pukeori Village Settlement.

Sections 18 to 22 are situated five miles and a half from Hunterville, on the Watershed Road, and three miles and a half from the Mangaonoho Railway-station. The soil is good, being partly a drainable swamp, on a papa formation. The section is level, is watered by a running stream, and is timbered chiefly with rimu, tawa, &c., with the usual undergrowth.

Sections 10, 15, and 16 are situated five miles and a half from Hunterville, near the junction of the Murimutu and Watershed Roads, and are distant three miles and a half from Mangaonoho Railway-station, by a formed dray-road. The soil is good, on a papa formation. There is about an acre of level land suitable for building, &c.

Sections 2, 4, 6, and 8 are situated five miles and a half from Hunterville, near the junction of the Murimutu and Watershed Roads, and about three miles and a half from Mangaonoho Railway-station, by a formed dray-road. The land, although hilly, has a good soil on a papa formation. It is covered with timber, consisting of rimu, tawa, birch, &c., and the usual undergrowth.

Makohine Village Settlement.

This section is situated about seven miles from Hunterville, by a good metalled road, and one mile and a half from the Mangaonoho Railway-station. The land is level and well watered, and the soil is good, on a papa formation. It is covered with timber, consisting of rimu, rata, tawa, &c., and the usual undergrowth.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. The lands enumerated above are first-class lands, and are divided into village-homestead allotments, open for selection on lease in perpetuity under the provisions of "The Land Act, 1892" (hereinafter referred to as "the said Act").

  2. The day on which the land shall be open for selection shall be Wednesday, the 13th day of October, 1897.

  3. The rental stated hereon shall be the price at which the land shall be open for selection.

  4. Applications for leases shall be made in manner as provided in Part I. of the said Act; and all such applications shall be made to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Wellington; and leases will be issued in accordance with the provisions of Part I. aforesaid.

  5. Each applicant shall state his or her residence, occupation, and condition in life (namely whether married or single), and will be required to make the declaration prescribed in Schedule C of the said Act.

  6. Each applicant shall pay the first half-year's rent, together with the lease- and registration-fee and the valuation for improvements, immediately the application has been approved or declared successful at the ballot.

  7. All rents must be paid half-yearly, in advance, on the 1st days of January and July in each year, as provided in section 157 of the said Act; and the first half-year's rent is payable as before provided. The next payment of rent will become due on the 1st January, 1898.

  8. No lessee shall apply for or hold more than one allotment, and such allotment shall be held for his or her sole use and benefit, and not for the use or benefit of any other person whomsoever. No married woman shall be eligible as a selector; but this provision shall not apply to any married woman who may become a transferee under a will or by virtue of an intestacy.

  9. Improvements and residence on the land comprised in each lease shall be as provided in Part III. of the said Act. The provisions of section 144, and all other provisions of the said Act with respect to substantial improvements, shall apply accordingly to lessees under these regulations. The provisions of section 141, and all other provisions of the said Act in respect of compulsory residence, shall apply accordingly to lessees under these regulations.

  10. No lessee shall subdivide, sublet, or transfer the land held by him under these regulations, except under and subject to the provisions of Part I. of the said Act.

  11. All the provisions of the said Act, so far as applicable, shall extend and apply to the lands affected by these regulations, and to the applications and leases to be made and issued thereunder, and generally to the interests created, and the persons whose rights, liabilities, or interests are thereby affected; and the mention of any particular provision of the said Act shall not be deemed to exclude any other provision of the said Act applicable to the particular case.

Reserves in Parkville Township, Wellington Land District, for Lease.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned reserves will be offered for lease at the Public Hall, Eketahuna, on Thursday, the 21st October, 1897, at 2 o'clock p.m.

Terms of Lease.—A deposit of a half-year's rent and £1 1s. lease-fee must be paid on the fall of the hammer.

No compensation shall be claimed by the lessees, nor shall any be allowed by the Government, for improvements effected by the lessee, nor for any other cause.

Possession will be given on day of sale.

The leases shall be for the terms specified, but shall be subject to termination by twelve months' notice in the event of the land being required by the Government.

Reserve in Auckland for Lease.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned reserve will be submitted for leasing for a term of fourteen years, under "The Public Reserves Act, 1881," at this office, on Friday, the 3rd day of September, 1897, at 11 a.m. :

Raglan County, Parish of Karamu: Section 22, 15 acres 1 rood; upset annual rent, £3.

The landing reserve about one mile from Whatawhata.

Term of Lease.—Fourteen years, without any right of renewal.

No compensation for improvements during either the currency or on termination of the lease; but the lessee may remove any buildings or fences erected by him.
